Here one thing that I find really cool. Who Framed Roger Rabbit (which does not have a question mark because Robert Zemeckis thought it didn't look right with one) had it's actors pantomime actons that the cartoons would do to them.To help them act out the sceen, rubber figures were used for plot out movements and sight lines and the voice actors were off screen reading lines. Roger's voice actor,Charles Fleischer, helped out by actting out some of his sceens, but he had a different way of...... getting into character.
There were also robots and puppeteers used, but that's the boring part to talk about (since I can't make it interesting without showing footage of both). If you want to see this or know more, look for a tv special/Youtube video called Secrets of Toontown. It's really intresting how they made Benny the Cab.
