Today, we both decided to give Witcher a go -- just starting with different ones.

which game is the one on the right? (assuming that's are different games)

if those are different games: which is the one on the left? the witcher 2? 3? (i never played the witcher, i planning to read the books first, since i heard that the games are a sequel to the original books)

Witcher 3 on the left, Witcher 1 on the right !

I've only just become aware this morning that there are books about the Witcher, I'm also thinking of picking them up to get some of the lore -- apparently, they're very good.
