Not only his relationship with his son Jack is a key element of the plot of his game, as is his desire to save his wife Abigail and son from the clutches of the government, John is also literally willing to kill members of his old posse to save his family. The latter half of Red Dead Redemption shows us that all he really wanted in life was to live peacefully on his ranch with his wife and child.
You can know for sure that you’d feel awfully safe with a father like John.
