Another problem with the update is that it removed extra EXP for Nice, Great and Excellent throws, but instead you will randomly get 10 to 100 extra EXP when catching Pokemon. This is really odd considering that some people will end up losing EXP since they often got the extra EXP almost all the time for just being skilled at the game. It feels like they removed the EXP in order to remove motivation to throw the higher catch rate throws, thus prompting more wasted pokeballs and more money spent on the game. But again, it's hard to know because like SERIOUSLY THOUGH said, they haven't communicated anything to us.
There's also talk that catch rates are down even more than they used to be in order to again, prompt people to spend money on the game more often, but I honestly think my chances of catching Pokemon has increased as I haven't missed anything since nightfall, but before updating I failed to catch a CP 95 pidgey after throwing 5 pokeballs at it before it ran. I think that last part is just people trying to get everyone to freak out as much as possible, like with all the fake stories related to Pokemon Go that started cropping up when people wanted to make it look bad.
