Kanji.  The ambiguity isn't the defining characteristic of Kanji, but adds greatly to the depth of the character.

So basically, you are saying that the only thing that people should care about this Kanji guy is his sexual orientation?

I think it makes a better character to think of his "gayness" as being confused because he's a teenager. He's a guy who likes  doing "unmanly" things like kitting (or was it sewing?) and the only person he's seen crushing on is Naoto Shirogane. There also the whole fact that Japan is really different in customs and (if I'm not wrong) being unmanly is seen as a bigger deal. So in my opinion, his character is more trying to understand himself and how he fits in a world that would consider him unmanly.
