Exactly. You can't have your cake and eat it at the same time.
True but I don't see why they've "modernised" their consoles by adding a subscription service yet removed all aspects of what little social gaming the Wii U had. No Street Pass and Miiverse. Also the VOIP is via a paid smartphone app.
Like...I can't. Like what Nintendo? How? I can't understand the thought process behind stuff like this.
This isn't even about having a cake and eating it, because you can have these things within the system since they are aren't mutually exclusive. I pay for Xbox and PSN services and am given all of the social gaming/community stuff I need but I pay for Nintendo Switch Online and receive less than the free service they had before?
The Modernization is having no region locks, having seemingly more online games, having more 3rd party support, and just in general, making a system that falls more into what modern gaming is, as opposed to what the Wii and Wii U were. With confirmation that Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 will be on the Switch, as well as other games with multiplayer like Arms, the Switch is already looking to have more need and use of online that than the Wii U ever did, and there's also those free NES/SNES games that will be playable in two player mode online. Also they will have online voice chat. Also, If I'm being totally honest, I hate Mii's so damn much. They were annoying to make, had only a few games where they even popped up, were basically a constant micro-transaction, which is why Microsoft got rid of their version of them with the Xbox One, and honestly, they always looked incredibly stupid. Yeah, it's a little dumb that you have to pay for the app, but say for example. the monthly subscription is 40 dollars for a year and the app costs 5 to 10 bucks. In the end, that's still cheaper than a year of Gold or a PSN account. All of that is speculation on both our ends but to say that there's another system with paid online access so therefore I'm not getting it, even though I don't know everything that entails, is very narrow-minded. At least wait to find out what's what before you dismiss it like that.
