With confirmation that Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 will be on the Switch, as well as other games with multiplayer like Arms, the Switch is already looking to have more need and use of online that than the Wii U ever did, and there's also those free NES/SNES games that will be playable in two player mode online. Also they will have online voice chat. Also, If I'm being totally honest, I hate Mii's so damn much. They were annoying to make, had only a few games where they even popped up, were basically a constant micro-transaction, which is why Microsoft got rid of their version of them with the Xbox One, and honestly, they always looked incredibly stupid. Yeah, it's a little dumb that you have to pay for the app, but say for example. the monthly subscription is 40 dollars for a year and the app costs 5 to 10 bucks. In the end, that's still cheaper than a year of Gold or a PSN account. All of that is speculation on both our ends but to say that there's another system with paid online access so therefore I'm not getting it, even though I don't know everything that entails, is very narrow-minded. At least wait to find out what's what before you dismiss it like that.
But Nintendo were "modernised" before. The DS was hugely successful in and that wasn't region locked. Microsoft decided to "modernise" themselves by making the Xbox One region free. That's a positive to the consumer. I've already bought 3 Japanese exclusive games on the system.
By modernising, my main complaint is the online service. Yes the Switch will online games but it's not about the games, but about what online features you're given as a paying customer. Xbox GOLD and PSN isn't just being able to play online but also access to subscription games like Games for Gold and PlayStation PLUS. You're given "free"(they are not free but apart of your subscription service but people think they're free for some reason) as a part of your Gold subscription. There's more as well such as early access to games, free weekend plays and in some cases, full Xbox One and PS4 titles added to your library under no additional charge. Also Gold and PS Plus discounts on new games, deals , Cloud Game Saves and an online service that actually works. Combined with a solid friends lists, messaging service and, VOIP (via controller or Kinect) and ability to meet new games, view profiles etc, it's simple and has plenty for the consumer to work.
Just trying to send an invite for Smash 4 on the Wii U beyond fucking tedious. Not only was that a free service but the Switch is a paid service and has LESS social gaming than before. VOIP via a smartphone app and no community to discuss topics and games like a forum on Miiverse? C'mon, Nintendo.
Nintendo are vague about the Nintendo subscription/"free" downloads too. It sounds like you get a "free" NES game to pay each month and then it cycles to a new game. Not like on Xbox or PSN where you add it to your library and can use it whenever you want. Also, screw NES and SNES games. The Xbox One and PS4 offer current gen titles but Nintendo are offering 2MB NES games from 20 years ago?
To even quote Reggie:
Quote:Essentially you’ve got access to that game for a period of time, and then after the month there’s a new selection. You’ll have the opportunity to buy it, but [after] that month we’ve moved on to another game.
