ARMS Direct Details
#1
Time to talk about Arms, and I gotta say, it's kinda looking like a fighting game version of Rocket League, sort of. But, before we get into that, let's talk about the remaining new characters and a bit about the mechanics. So Arms gave us a two new characters starting with Byte and Barq (pronounced bark), a team of two who fight as one! Barq will attack with it's own one Arms like ability, and work as a way to allow Byte to jump off of him to get extra height. These two are robot Police officer and his dog. Twintelle is the only ARMS fighter to use her hair as weapon. She is based off of your typical hollywood actor. Each character, new and already introduced will have three weapons they start off with allowing for different combinations, however because you can unlock all the arms for all the fighters, thousands of combinations will be possible at launch. Also, as a nice addition, getting duplicates is not as big an issue as it might be in other games like this, because they do more damage. It's not clear though how many times that will stack though.

ARMS also has a few different modes and while obvious ones like online matching making ranked matches are there, it's possible to set up a tournament with up to 20 players across 10 Switch consoles. You can also team up in two vs two, three-way fights and a special mode where you are tethered together requiring great amounts of teamwork to win. There also two modes that are not fighting games at all, and they a basically Tennis and Basketball. In the Tennis mode, you'll need to get the ball to hit the ground of your opponent while keeping it away from your side, and it will blow up on impact. In the Basketball mode, you are the basketball and so is your opponent. The goal is try and grab them and slam them through the hoop and there is some varying ways to do this, as it's possible to get three pointers.

Next, and now more fitting than ever given that a Splatoon 2 trailer ended this direct, it was confirmed that several new characters, ARMS and other added content would be coming to the game after release, for free. It's not been made clear whether any DLC can be paid for, but given that you need credits of sorts to unlock some of the ARMS that can be mixed together like I mentioned earlier, it's possible there might be some micro-transactions, we'll have to see how that plays out.

Finally, there will be some Beta's of sorts before the game launches. These have been titled The ARMS Global TestPunch, and will take place As soon as May 26th through the 28th, and June 2nd through the 4th. The first day of these will be in the US only though, so if you live outside the country, you'll have to wait until the following day to play.
