General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread
I haven't really given a big post in a while, but I'll give some random updates on stuff and tell you guys about my anime society at uni.

Anime wise, I've recently finished Little Witch Academia and an anime called Houseki no Kuni, and I've started Yawara! A fashionable judo girlKyou kara Ore wa!! and Irresponsible Captain Tylor.

LWA was very good and much better than I thought it would be. I wanted to watch it initially because it was cute but it was really good and kept me going. I didn't expect it to have an arc by the 2nd season so that was even more interesting. It didn't really have a bad episode, all the characters were interesting and Akko was honestly a perfect main character.

Houseki no Kuni was odd, it was mainly a story about personified gems fighting against an unknown force that appears out of nowhere to try and collect the gems that these personified gems are made of. (It would be the equivalent of an alien race wanting to kill us for our organs) The story revolves around the main character being the weakest of them all and wanting to learn how to fight, but even falling over could shatter them into pieces, and so is assigned to do other things instead, but usually ends up involved in something bigger than they can handle.

I'll basically just steal what I said from Discord into it, since why not.

"So I finished Houseki no Kuni, and personally it was above average but nothing amazing in my eyes. I enjoyed it for what it was, I mean I watched 12 episodes in 3 days or so, I never do that with anime. The premise was unique and Phos was cute and an enjoyable main character, and a lot of the supporting charcacters were interesting and quite humourous at time which kept it quite interesting when nothing was going on. It had great visuals even for CGI, which I looked past by around the third episode when I noticed that their gem hair actually shines on their shoulders and knew they couldn't achieve that with normal animation. The music was pretty good, reminded me of BOTW and was used well. Overall, it was around a 7/10. Nothing amazing, but above average with it's own unique charm that I can see the appeal of. Not sure how I'd improve upon it (maybe giving the story more meaning?), but for what it was it was fine.  I didn't hate it by any means btw"

Yawara! is a pretty cute anime and I'm enjoying it so far, the opening is really catchy, and while it's 100+ episodes long, I'm sure I'll be able to force my way through it somehow. Not much I can say on it so far, but I enjoy it. Irresponsible Captain Tylor is kinda iffy, I thought it would be the adventures of a happy go lucky idiot being put in charge of a battleship and then using his idiotic moves to outsmart enemies in battle, which would've been hilarious, but as of now he's not really doing any of that. I'm hoping it improves. Kyou Kara Ore Ha!! is very funny and pretty interesting, it's about two kids who transfer to a new school and pretend to be delinquents, only for real delinquents to try and put them in their place, but through stupidity, luck and underestimation they pull through in the end. Although, each episode is like 40+ minutes, with the first being an hour long.

Manga wise I read and finished both parts of "Gambling Emperor Legend Zero" in under a month. It's a very good manga made by the guy who made Kaiji. It's gambling as per usual but has an emphasis on other characters which makes it quite funny. Zero isn't like Akagi or Kaiji, he's a mix of the two and it's pretty funny to see him be dumbfounded and shocked by random things around him, as well as seeing how smart he is in getting out of situations. Although, it's full of autistic maths. There's like an entire volume dedicated to how one gamble they're in is related to maths, and they're forced to do calculations.

I also read and finished Liar's Game. I found it to be alright, it's a shame since I knew about the manga years before I ever read it, or any gambling related manga. It's been in my bookmarks since 2015 and I never got a chance to read it until recently. It's a shame since it starts out quite well but then has long 50 chapter arcs that aren't very engaging half the time, and I was bored with reading them a lot, only for it to end on a weird cliffhanging like the author was rushed to finish it, which pretty much answered nothing and put everyone back to square one.

Since I've been using my tablet for manga, I've been getting suggestions from the app I use, and I decided to actually read one for no real reason, and I chose  Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki which is about a 5'11 girl going out with a 5'3 guy. It wasn't very noteworthy, nothing happened and it wasn't worth the read.

I read another manga called High Score Girl and it was very good. It's still publishing and only has 44 chapters or so, but I really enjoyed it. It's basically about a bratty kid who is only good at vidya and nothing else beating a rich girl who spends all her time at an arcade, only for her to kick him in the head for beating her at Street Fighter, thus starting a cute little love story between the two. The main appeal of this manga for me was the vidya, it's really cool to read about arcades in the 90's, and the different games they play. The love story between the two main characters is quite sweet as well, The main girl never talks and sometimes "grrrrrs" at the main boy when he annoys her, and so the story is mostly told through the boy inferring things about her, and acting upon it. If you really like video games and a cute love story, here it is.

In more FKMT news. I've also begun reading Gin to Kin. Not much I can really say here since by know you must know FKMT's stuff is usually gambling, and you're not wrong. This time it's mostly about politics and business manipulation as well. It's pretty good, but all of his stuff is.

Lastly, I've been reading something called Shirogane no Nina. It's pretty much the story of a 27 year old guy coming back from Tokyo to a small Japanese town and notices a young silver haired, blue eyed girl in his parents house. Upon finding out it's his sisters daughter, he basically spends his time hanging around her and looking after her, showing her how japanese culture works and other japanese things. It's a cute little story and reminds me of Yotsuba in many ways. I'd give it a read if you really enjoyed Yotsuba.

Thanks for reading this far down if you did by the way.

That's about all I've read and watched over the past month or so.
