It's usually the same generic thing: bad guys show up, heroes look like they're about to lose, but then they win with the power of friendship/love/heart of the cards/some other bs. Also, shonen anime/manga last sooooooooo long. I think One Piece is somewhere in the 700's in the manga, right? This is why I tend to play the video game versions of said shonen anime/manga, because they have condensed stories that won't take me a month to read through. And surprisingly, the games are usually made pretty well.
I think it's part of some contract to make a series as long as possible so Viz Media can sell you as much junk as they can while their mangas are still relevant. And that's what killed my love of Bleach, the beginning is pretty good with it's self-contained chapters telling it's take on the afterlife and getting into wacky adventures with some oddball characters. It was like Ghostbusters meets Japanese culture. Though it doesn't take long for the series to turn from self-contained stories to long running generic Good guy/bad guy BS, and takes the focus away from what happens to the dead to let's beat up the ghost police!
