I wonder if this is a result of an oversight during translation, or if the developers confused themselves with the twist. You'd think they would have checked and double-checked their facts, considering that the gameplay actually depends on it, rather than the story being merely ancillary as it is in many games.
While the English text very much implies that she can see his eyes, it's possible that the original Japanese is more in line with the one commenter's memory -- that she can "feel" his gaze. If someone could find the original script, I could take a whack at translating that portion. I have some basic skill with Japanese.
