Wasn't really a kid but tried Mass Effect 2 pretty soon after it came out when I was a teenager and couldn't fucking stand it. Then I gave it another shot last year, got past the horrible tutorial, and my god is that game glorious. Such a great story, so many fantastic self contained side quests, and the entire game is just one big ol' "getting the team back together" montage with really likable characters.
