I'm a puzzle guy too, like give me a suduko and I can ace that shit in minutes, but this is just probability and dumb luck. I understand the formula and how you're supposed to maximize your chances, but at the end of the day it's still you vs. the RNG. Not to mention that it'll randomly boot you sometimes out after you hit a mine/orb just because it can. Oh and unlike in older games, you can't just buy coins to get the stuff, this shit is MANDATORY if you want good moves on some of your guys.
