I can't see Thanks counts, am I dead?
#1
I can't see anyone's Thanks numbers by their usernames, including my own, ever since I got banned. At first I thought that the feature was just removed from the site or something, but I can still give Thanks for posts and what not. Is it because of my warning level or something?

I can't see it either. I guess it was just removed? No one's said anything as to why or if it's a bug.

I assume that it's a bug, considering that we can still give thanks to posts, but maybe they removed the total count as part of the forum overhaul. It's not a huge deal or anything, it just seems odd.

I liked the Thanks counter. It was a kinda pride type of thing just to know someone liked the post. I kinda wish they would bring it back or at lest tell us why it was taken away.

It definitely wasn't removed intentionally. Chances are, they somehow disappeared from the templates when I updated the forum software. Reinstalling the plugin may fix it so I'll look into doing that soon.

I actually intentionally removed it - I have seen conversations that tell me that the counters were being used as a form of competition, in which some people weren't thanking posts themselves in order to have a lower "Thanks Given" number to their "Thanks Received" number. Which is dumb. People shouldn't feel a resentment for thanking.

Well, I stand corrected. I almost started my original reply with "I can't speak for anyone elee" and then didn't for some reason. Oh well. Regardless, there you have it.

Care to show us where those were taking place? I think I brought it up one time as a joke, nobody I know really takes them seriously or anything, we just like keeping track.

I'm not willing to post private conversations on a public facing thread. Those involved in these discussions have spoken to me directly and I'll respect their privacy.

If you don't take it seriously and it isn't of grave concern, I feel it's justified to make these figure of no importance, and making the thanking system be more commonly used. It's a small gesture that can make people feel the warm and fuzzies - I see no reason to not have it take place more often.

This is also based on past experience on another successful forum I run in which the thanking system is used far more often, and there is no count.

Well that's a bummer. I really liked knowing when someone thanked my post. I know I could just go back and see who did it, but I think it would be better to know when it happened than to recheck the same post over and over again. However, if you had people complain about them, I don't think the counter is all that important. I just thought it was a cool feature.

Sure are a lot of changes lately. Can't say I can for them, but whatever floats your boat.

I miss the the count only because it kept the text area aligned with other posts, but now posters with short names and avatars have their posts out of place compared to posters with long names and large avatars. But whatever, I was only using the count to stroke my E-pen so this change shouldn't rustle anyone's jimmies. (Unless you're that attached in knowing someone out there doesn't think your post sucks.)

Aww... I miss seeing Cody's ridiculously high thank-to-post ratio :/
