Happy Mardi Gras!

Does anyone fully celebrate? I don't so much do the religious part (although it is interesting), I more so enjoy the celebration- food, parades, etc.

I'll be having gumbo and friend alligator for lunch! With root beer and King Cake made in Louisiana! I wanted to go to New Orleans this year but I wasn't able to, so i'm doing what I can on my lunch break haha.

I've always wanted to try alligator. There's a place in Tennessee that serves it, but I haven't had a chance to go there.

Check it out whenever you can. If it's done right, it will be so good!

Here was my lunch-
Abita root beer (from Louisiana), Louisiana hot sauce, fried alligator, seafood gumbo, red beans and rice, King Cake (from the legendary Gambino's in Louisiana!) and Abita root beer float!

I'd love to be in France today, we eat various pancakes and cakes and just generally have a good time !

Mardi Gras in la Nouvelle Orléans is definitely on my bucket list

Mardi Gras in New Orleans is typically a party float with lots of drunk people and topless women with beads. Not a bad time.

Heard on the radio that Bourbon Street was going to be called Beer n Urine Street, but it was too spot on. Bad joke? I dunno, I just heard it.

Not entirely true. The Mardi Gras celebration itself is the floats and parades and beads/cups/other throws.

The drunkenness and boobs is something college kids started to do. They don't even actually celebrate Mardi Gras, they just use it as an excuse to get drunk. They typically stay on Bourbon Street though, so at least they're easily avoidable.

Seriously, Bourbon Street is the absolute worst. I've been to two official New Orleans Mardi Gras, and I avoid Bourbon Street like the plague.

Mardi Gras History

Mardi Gras Traditions (including information about the boobs)

The title of this thread is literally the only French I know, but I am going to guess you said "Yay Happy Mardi Gras!" :)

If you eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever come to NOLA, you better let me know! I will save up some money and go. I love Mardi Gras in New Orleans!

Fun Fact: New Orleans is the city I names Nola after. The NO stand for New Orleans, and the LA is for Louisiana.

I came home from the bar last night and my mom was like "How was it?!" and I was like "What?" and she's like "The bar?! It was Mardis Gras!" and I'm like "It was? I just got drunk and played cards. They didn't do anything for it."

If I'd known I'd have gotten much more accomplished on Mardi Gras.

I do remember you mentioning that a while back :)

Totally up for a New Orleans party at some point ! Once I get settled in and whatnot, Mardi Gras will just be a plane-ride away :D
