The Chit Chat Thread: 2 (Electric Boogaloo?)

Also this whole "kin" thing is some of the stupidest shit I've ever heard of. It seems like something some kid would dream up but you have people in their 20s claiming they're incarnations of fictional characters and have "memories" of their "past lives".

...The internet is going to give me cancer.

There was a comic about this, but the main gist of it was that it's the internet.

Back in the 90's, if you were like "Hey Parents, Family, Friends, Random Strangers. I think that I'm actually a wolf in a human's body" you'd be shunned, bullied, told not to think that way and eventually grow out of it.

But today, if you're like that you can just jump on the internet, google "Are there idiots like me?" and get hundreds of communities that basically wolves in human skin or whatever telling you that you're right, you should be proud of being stupid and never change. Because the people telling you this have been told this themselves. The internet is a great tool to escape reality and find like minded people, for better or worse.

In the end what you're getting is the generation we have now. People who were confused teenagers brainwashed by the internet because some idiot somewhere thought that the reasoning behind the thoughts they had during puberty were that they were a dragon or actually a boy who is a girl on some days.

Personally it does not harm if they think they're a wolf and act like it while they're say, 15 for two or three years. It only becomes a problem if they're physically trying to change their body with harmful chemicals or things that overall will affect them years down the line. Then it's a problem.

The internet is basically like a big red light district. Avoid all the big flashy signs and people trying to lure you places and just stick to the straight and narrow. You'll end up better for it.
The way I figure it, if you ain't hurting me, I don't care at all how you get your kicks. Do whatever the heck you want WITHOUT hurting other people, just don't expect me to join in anytime soon.

That doesn't mean that it's healthy, though; people need to learn how to deal with their problems IRL without this weird crap. I understand the trend of wanting to be a special snowflake, but making up all this weird stuff about how you used to be a fictional character is honestly bizarre.

I'm a massive fan of Tohru Adachi from Persona 4. I sometimes post headcanons I have about the character or use Photoshop to make stupid jokes. I had someone who's "kin" with him claim that they're an Adachi that's "in the redemption phase" and my "lies" about him were hurtful and I should stop. Instant block, but oh wow did this person honestly believe what they were saying.

While I'm at it, there's no such thing as "gender fluid" either. Just because you're a boy/girl who wants to wear feminine/masculine sometimes doesn't mean you're the opposite gender on those days. You're either one or the other whether you were born male/female or are trans-gendered (I know there's some rare exceptions if there were birth defects). Some people absolutely get dysphoria, but using they/them pronouns is stupid too. Think otherwise and you're transphobic, of course!

Haha an effort was made.
Damn, all this talk reminds that there is actually a transgender kid in my school.

S/he is actually an alright person, and seems to be normal by standards. It's pretty rare that s/he gets treated badly and if then, only jokingly as s/he has some good friends.

I know being transgender is quite different from thinking your a werewolf or a fictional character but that is the Internet. The one thing I learn from the the Internet is that it will be as real as you want it to be. If you want to know if a person is into some deeply disturbing shit, then it will take a couple of clicks to find your destination. If you want to piss off 4chan as a joke, then get ready to get into some serious trouble.

Honestly, I don't care to make the Internet as real as my environment. There is already a sex-offendor living near my neighborhood. A werewolf or fictional wannabe sounds trivial at best compare to what most people are going thru day in and day out.
Well, looks like this thread is no longer stickied again....can the mods fix this?

This thread is now stickier than a forest.

Our forests caught fire because of a drought and teenage vandals and 14 people died........ too soon?
Hello winter my old friend.

On a plus we haven't hit -35C(-31F) yet and so haven't received the ever-so-fun "watch out so your eyes don't freeze" advisory from the authorities.
Meanwhile, we had a coldfront that brought us down to 65 F for 2 days and its back to normal again.
Thanks to the shirt my mother is wearing she looks like this today:

PC fan is busted so everything's stuttering and I can't run most of my games without risking permenant damage until my replacement arrives, and it's a high of 0 with Winter Storm Warnings all next week so I can't drive out and do stuff at my usual LGS. So I'm stuck at home, with family in town...
