That one game series that keeps on getting worse and worse.

If you think about it. If you make a great game that fans consider it as the best of the series(which is Resident Evil 4). Its going to be a hard act to follow if you're going to make the next entry for the series. I only played a little bit of the fifth Resident evil game. I wanted to like it, but I felt like it was missing something that would have made a superior follow up to the fourth game.

Meh.

RE5 was far superior.

I don't really see games that ruin series or series that keep getting worse. This year alone I've bought and played some of the games that people find the "best" and "worse" in a sires (examples being Angel of Darkness, Drake of the 99 Dragons, and Enter the Matrix, with only Drake being bad but still enjoyable).

I would say Mario is one series that keeps getting worse, but his games flucuate from same old same old to good to boring. Sonic does the same. The only one that does not do this is Kirby, becuse Kirby is perfect.

There are people out there who label RE4 as 'the best' of the Resident evil series. I'm not one of them though.

But to get back onto the subject. Can the NFL sports games fit into this? Considering that its the same type of game over and over again?

Yes. Just about any sport imo. I just played WWE 2K15 and hated it. I can go back to SvR 2006 and play almost the same game with not-as-good graphics. I also don't like NBA 2K15 as much as I thought I would. I'd rather go back to 2K14.
They get worse.

I'm aware but I've only ever played through the game twice. That's all I can muster. I can see why it is considered the best but I personally just don't see it being that good.

Sports games are a funny thing. They mass ship them to every store, then those same stores eternally have a chronology of each year for wii, xbox 360, ps2, ps3, ps4, and Xbone.
