The Division
#1
Anyone else excited for The Division? I've been unusually hyped for this game for years, which is weird because it looks pretty generic on the surface and you guys know that I'm not much for hype trains and the choo-chooing thereof. For whatever reason though, this Tom Clancy shooty-mmo really caught my eye. Maybe because it reminds me of DayZ but not a terrible buggy unfinished shitfest, or maybe I just really like a lot of the gameplay mechanics. For example, PvP is mostly constrained to Dark Zones, like the Wilderness in Runescape with the best loot inside of it,but if you decide to be a bandit and Kill On Sight in the PvP zones, you and your partners are labeled as hostile agents, you have a bounty on your head and other players can track you down more easily. From what I've heard of the alpha, it creates a really unique and enjoyable PvP system that doesn't just devolve into mindless banditry or stupid team based firefights like so many other games do. I dunno, maybe it will be awful, I'm just really extremely pumped about The Division.

The beta is going to start in "early 2016", and from what I've gathered on the rumor-mongering internet, it's likely to launch sometime in January. You could preorder the game to get in, like a loser, or right now through January third, there's a promotion on the Ubisoft store where, if you buy anything on sale, they'll send you a beta key when it releases. So I just bought some $.50 DLC for assassins creed for a beta key essentially. Oh and speaking of which, if anyone wants some Assassin's Creed Black Flag DLC lemme know since I apparently have a key for some now. Be warned that the deal is only available in certain regions and I have no idea which areas are excluded.

I'm pretty much done with shooters that don't have a good story or characters I care about. I thought for a bit that the division might be fun, but then I decided against it, as 1. there are more games I'd rather play and 2. Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted 4 are probably all the shooter I'm going to be able to enjoy in 2016. If there were a lot of different weapon types that didn't rely on bullets, I'd probably care more, but I'm pretty sick of shooters and I feel like nothing can spice them up enough to make me care, unless of course again, it's got characters I care about. For those that want to play it, I'm sure it'll be fun, but for me, it's probably the most skippable game we know about coming into 2016. Let's also not forget that Ubisoft has a habit of over-hyping games and then falling very short of said hype, and that they also have a habit of releasing really bad games in the first title of a new IP.

Truth be told, I was really excited to see it when it was announced, but it comes across as Tom Clancy's Day Z with only marginal bits of apocalypse thrown in. It could be good, but it won't be for me.

I was excited for it, but after Watchdogs, and many other games eventually turning out to be downgraded and not as good as the trailer shows them to be, I've stopped caring that much.

I'll still get it, but I don't know if it'll really be good.

Unfortunately I don't have an eye out for AAA games like I used to. I do see, and buy, a few of them here and there but my general focus lies on indie games.

But on the topic of The Division: I don't care much for it. Military-style shooters aren't to my liking.

I've been playing the Beta all weekend and it's crazy fun, one of my favorite games in recent memory. I love the PvP system so much, it feels like what Dayz was going for but only in a game that's competently designed. I made some friends in game and we just ran around as the Muffin gang and asked people if they liked muffins, and if they don't we shoot em dead. One guy said he liked them, so we obviously had to further our interrogation by asking what sound muffins make. He replied "I'M A MUFFIN I'M A MUFFIN" so I shot him in the head.

Muffins can't talk.
