Mischief Makers Anime References
#1
Mischief Makers, or known in Japan as Yuke Yuke!! TroubleMakers, was a N64 game that came out back in 1997 as a 2.5D platformer.  Made by Treasure and published by Enix (pre-merger), Mischief Makers is a game that since its release, has garnered a substantial cult following for its unique gameplay and quirky nature, often considered by gaming media as an underrated classic.  Part of the weird charm of the game has come from its presentation, clearly inspired to be a cheesy anime itself.  With that said, here are couple of anime that the game went out of the way in referencing.

In the level, "Rescue! Act 2", the miniboss Calina undergoes a transformation, via a magical wand, into a form mimicking Marina.  The scene is parodying the famous transformation sequences from Sailor Moon (more specially, Sailor Venus's).

In the final level of the game, the last boss is the Beastector, a combination of three mechs named after mythical creatures nicknamed: Cerberus alpha, Sasquatch beta, and Phoenix gamma.  The Beastector's design is an homage to the Gundam robots from the Mobile Suit Gundam series; Similarities include the distinct V-shape on both their heads as well as the use of the Beam rifle by the Beastector similar to the ones from the Gundam series.
