General "Did you Know?"s
Have you ever wondered why white people are often called "caucasian"? (note: this mostly happens in the United States and Canada). Where does the term come from anyway?

The term Caucasian is used to describe people who come from the Caucasus region, home to the Caucasus Mountains, including the Greater Caucasus mountain range. Now that we explained the origin of the name we should answer the other question. Why are ALL white people called Caucasian?

It was all because of a German anthropologist called Johann Friedrich Blumenbach. He believed that the shape of someone's skull is a key factor in determining someone's race. He believed that humanity came from the Caucasus and because Caucasians (or at least most of them) just so happen to be white he named ALL white people... well, Caucasians.

To be more specific, he believed that there were five human races: Caucasian, Mongolian, Malayan, Ethiopian, and American. However, it should be noted that contrary to what one might initially assume, Mr. Blumenbach actually fought against the notions of "certain races are superior to others" that were prevalent at the time.

Take for example former MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was born in the North Caucasus in Dagestan, Russia. And this one is a controversial figure but Joseph Stalin is also Caucasian, as he was born in the country of Georgia AKA Sakartvelo. People like them are the real Caucasians.

In other words, using the word "Caucasian" to refer to all white people means that you're using outdated racial anthropology. You don't see people nowadays calling every Asian "Mongolian", do you?

EDIT: Hell, there are quite a few people in the Caucasus that aren't white yet they are still more caucasian than most white folks in North America could EVER hope to be!

You know that scene in X-Men 3: The Last Stand where Juggernaut says "I'm The Juggernaut, Bitch!"?

That scene is a reference to this classic video. It's a parody to the X-Men cartoon from the 90's.

You know that meme clip where Penguinz0/Cr1TiKaL says "Yeah Baby! That’s what I’ve been waiting for! That's what it's all about!"?

Most people don't know this (either that or they decided to ignore it) but here he was being sarcastic. This means that people are using the meme wrong.

Then again, I don't blame people for not knowing. If you watch the clip out of context you can't tell he's being sarcastic.

This is probably one of the saddest stories I've shared here. If not the saddest.

Lindy Chamberlain is an Australian woman. Back in 1980 she went camping with her family to a camp near Uluru / Ayers Rock, but eveything went wrong when a Dingo came to the tent and took her nine-week-old daughter Azaria.

From here things got worse for Lindy Chamberlain. You see, at the time it was believed that Dingos presented no credible threats to human, so at the time the Australian public was firmly divided at that time between those who believed she was guilty and those who were not sure. Not only that, but Lindy and her husband Michael were menbers of the Seventh Day Adventist Church instead of being Christian/Catholic. Back in the day the Seventh Day Adventist Church was treated like some kind of dark, sinister, satanic cult rather than just another Christian denomination (albeit one with some weird stuff attached to it).

In hindsight, it was the media who were responsible - though they were aided and abetted by the incompetence of the investigators at that time. The reporters kept stopping their interviews and forcing Lindy to stop crying, then airing the sixth or seventh take of the interview in order to make Lindy appear unemotional (thus implying that she did it). As for the investigators? Well, one of the things they did is that they checked the family's car and found blood on it, which was used as evidence against them..... until it was later found out that it wasn't blood. It was red paint.

Lindy and her husband were convicted on the murder of Azaria in 1982. She was released in 1986 after the release of new evidence. They were officially pardonded in 1987.

Another travesty about the whole thing is that even after releasing Lindy and overturning their convictions, then having a third inquest into Azarias death they never changed the death certificate to say "killed by a dingo". It was left as unknown causes. Michael spend 7 years gathering evidence of dingo attacks in Australia and fighting for a 4th inquest to change the death certificate and it wasnt until a 6 year old was mauled on Fraser Island did people take notice. They finally changed the death certificate in 2012.

And how did the U.S.A took this? They made jokes about it. Yankees saw dingoes eating babies as the peak of comedy for some reason.

Contrary to popular belief, Mozart wasn't from Austria (not to be confused with Australia). Mozart was GERMAN.

Likewise, Adolf Hitler isn't German. He's was from Austria.

Why does this misconception exists in the first place? Austrian propaganda, that's why. So if you see someone saying that Mozart was from Austria then correct that person ASAP.

Did you know that Stjepan Šejić made a fan-comic crossover of Lara Croft and Woner Woman? Stjepan Šejić is a comic book writer and artist, known for his work on the series Witchblade, Aphrodite IX, Sunstone, and The Darkness among others.

https://twitter.com/stjepansejic/status/...4749463552

He didn't finish due to lack of free time.

I'm sure there are many people who wish that DC and Sqare Enix would look at this and say "let's make this an official crossover".

Spanish and Portuguese are pretty similar languages, which is to be expected considering they are both Latin languages.

However, did you know that Spanish and Portuguese are 90% to each other? Yes, you read that right. 90%

No, this doesn't mean that Portuguese is a dialect of Spanish. Portugal is 400 years older than Spain.

Everyone knows that male and female sports are separate. That, generally, men and women don't compete against each other at sports.

However, there are exceptions to this.

Some of these include horse racing, badminton, motorbike racing, etc.
