The ChickenDuck KickStarter

Fan of classic cartoons and WB animation? Check out Dave Alvarez's Kickstarter for The ChickenDuck Show: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/239...nduck-show

I almost forgot to put in my views of the Kickstarter. Here it goes.

----

After sending out links to several of my friends for it, I decided to take a look at the supposed "ChickenDuck" Kickstarter. I figured that since it was going to be a good 2D animated homage to WB cartoons, it would have some good material.

Disappointed. It has a decent concept and good character designs. But it's all downhill from there. I really like the character but from the Kickstarter's execution, there's no reason for me to care about him. In what should be a character-driven idea with characters that should have tangible wants, were given story-driven plots that focused on the environment around the character that aren't terribly interesting. The second short was the only thing that came close to character driven and even then, there are a few stakes missing. The vocals are outstanding and the animation is very good. But that's pretty much all I can get from looking at the Kickstarter. Also, the character is suffering from Hanna Barbera's Tom and Jerry syndrome where the character suffers from his own stupidity in the end. To have a nuance balance of comedy, the character should at least succeed once.

I also looked thoroughly at it. It has good intentions of what it's trying to do. But I feel that it lacks info. One of Dave's idea for the result of the Kickstarter was to create 4 additional shorts, one of which involves the character in a spooky setting. While that's a good idea, it should've been explained thoroughly. The title card of said idea was shown in the video. But the video was nothing more but an already completed short. The video should've explained the Kickstarter and gave in more detail about the show, the characters and the purpose of the Kickstarter. The prizes are good though. Can't argue with that. I also checked Dave's YT channel. The video only achieved a bare minimum of views. And the live streams shown are pretty much reruns of the completed shorts and selective animated clips (silent and not), which isn't really interesting. From the looks of it, I really don't think that ChickenDuck is a strong character to receive it's own KS, at least at this point. Because, it looks like the short is struggling to gain an audience which could cause a damper in the KS. The only other way people have access to ChickenDuck is by the Facebook page, and not everyone goes to FB. Maybe if ChickenDuck gained enough significant views, it would get a decent fanbase allowing the KS to grow. But so far, out of the supposed $14,000 goal, it's only receiving about 5% of it. This Kickstarter is very similar to John Dilworth's Dirty Burdy one. Even though the creator has a reputation for making one of the greatest shows in Cartoon Network, the creator didn't advertise his KS enough to gain the funding it needs.

This is not a stab to Dave Alvarez or anyone involved with the Kickstarter. They are great talent and I support them tenfold. I love what there trying to do. But this KS feels rushed. Take a look at John K's and Gavrilo Gnatovich's KS. John laid down a solid three act story, boarded well with a well thoughout video, gave a historical tale on how it came to be, laid down the prize ideas and while he's taking his sweet ass time, was able to get the funding he needs. He even talks about the Kickstarter in every convention he goes. Gavrilo did the same thing, except take his sweet ass time. Even though he didn't get a third short, his fanbase was big enough to have a graphic novel adaption. And that's because his pilots gained enough YT views to get the crowd interested. There's also this future KS that I will be supporting, which I cannot talk about until it's launches. But it has full potential. As the creator will be working with a gaming company on this. The creator showed live stream that focused on a sneak peek of a demo of the project, animation previews of character designs and moves and talks about the details of the KS before it launches. That's kinda outstanding to say the least.

While I'm too broke to support this KS, I will spread the word to the best of my ability and hope it get's the funding.

In the words of the Angel Dog: "OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Yes. I was referring to him. He did call me a nutjob after all because he has personal problems. Nothing aimed at either of you. But my opinion still stands.
