Ability to add boxart?
#1
There have been several released games on the site that still say "boxart pending". I was wondering how this could be resolved when an idea hit me: maybe you could allow users to post the Box art of a game?

I like that you brought this up. Maybe we can start a brain storm on this and figure out the best way to tackle it.

I would not advise that as giving users the ability to do so could have disastrous consequences if said users have malicious intent. The last thing we need is for someone to post pornographic material as box art.

Perhaps for upcoming titles and for current titles that do not have box art, we can use a Trivia Evidence post in the Forums to put up pictures of the box art for upcoming titles and those that are already in the Trivia section and/or add a picture of the box art (if it's already finalized and confirmed to be the official box art, maybe) in Trivia Evidence posts relevant to the upcoming games.

EDIT: I just had an after thought.
Maybe we can create a Sub-Forum for Box Art to go where Trivia Disputes and Trivia Evidence is or if we make a post in Trivia Evidence, it can be stickied to stay at the top and easy to find.

You can always just submit a report to the game in question with a suggested boxart image linked and doing so would actually definitely be appreciated.

Good suggestion you have there Petie. Recently I did that for games that I made a Submission to that still have Pending Boxarts (I also gave away some Banners that look fitting enough for them as well).

It would be nice to eventually allow users to upload boxart and the like with an approval process, but I imagine that Pete and I won't be able to implement it any time soon. I can't speak on his behalf, but I'm sure you can all appreciate how much work this second channel for DidYouKnowGaming has been, and how much it will continue to be in the future.

Perhaps once things become a little more routine we can find some time to consider it.

Recently I went around finding Banners for Games I submitted Trivia for that currently don't have them. Good Suggestion that was either way about finding stuff to use as Boxarts and Banners for each Game Page across the web (you can get pretty good findings too might I add).

Here's a Banner you can use for Super Mario Run and Super Mario Odyssey once it has a page up: http://media.idownloadblog.com/wp-conten...eader.jpeg and https://www.fairfaxstatic.com.au/content...701157.jpg

The image you suggested for Super Mario Odyssey is a prime example of why we haven't opened this ability up to the public actually. Banners in particular have some very specific requirements, the first of which is that the source image is at least 930px wide. You obviously had no way of knowing that but I feel like we'd spend more time cleaning up images than we would just adding them ourselves as time permits if we allowed users to add them directly.

Ooh, sorry bout that Petie. Within the past couple of months I may've already reported in some Banners for some Game Pages that don't have them already. I could try to find a way to adjust their size to make them 930px wide for those that aren't already, but unfortunately we can't view our Pending Reports to withdraw or edit them.

Hey, no need to apologize. I appreciate the fact that you're trying to help and I probably should have made that size requirement clear as soon as I saw that you were submitting banner suggestions too. Resizing smaller images to be larger won't work though - the source has to be at least 930px wide to be acceptable which is why it can sometimes be so difficult to get a good banner image.
