Nintendo considering making a Mario game with Yoichi-kotabe's art

We all know Mario has been mostly in 3D games lately, and most of the illustrations that were done by Yoichi Kotabe. Were done with 2D. One thing I've always wanted to see was a 2D hand-drawn video game taking the art from Yoichi and translating it to the form of a video game. Wario got a 2D animated side scroller with Wario Land Shake it, I dont see how bringing Mario to 2D animation should be a hassle for Nintendo to do.

I'm sort of questioning why Nintendo never bothered to do this. Everyone loves that artwork that Mario has been drawn in. I've seen people do more 'animated' approaches with the Mario universe. If Wario could get a 2D game, then they should bring their iconic plumber to 2D animated graphics for a side scroller.

I believe that the main reason behind Nintendo never trying this before was simply because 2d animation is just too time and resource expensive. Remenber, they had to draw countless frames for Wario's animations in Wario Land: Shake it! , which took many, many hours.
