WipEout - Technical Issues during development
#1
According to GamesRadar+ in their book "Classic Gaming: Volume 3," the original WipEout game was  first released to all PAL regions of the PS1 (which runs at 25 FPS), and then converted to NTSC versions (which runs at 30 FPS). However, the NTSC versions didn't do any time conversions which, according to programmer David Jefferies, "was 20% faster than your American friends."

The game uses aspects of the game that most dev teams avoided at the time: using HD and widescreen modes.

By using the 512 x 256 screen ratio, it helped Sony add the side-by-side type of split-screen rather than the top/bottom type.
