Gaming investment question
#1
Okay, I bought Majora's Mask 3D. Would it be worth buying a second one and throwing it in my safe for a few years? I can afford it, so it would be a easy investment.

That's actually very difficult to say. With previous generations of games, the answer would most definitely be yes, but as the current state of things lean, digital play is all that much easier. Seeing as there's a market for older games still despite easily being emulated, I'd say yes, but that's more of a legal issue so who knows?

If you VGA grade it while it's still in it's original packaging some idiot's going to buy it for more than it's worth.

Actually, fuck that. Just wrap the damn package it came in as well, for that extra authenticity.

On topic though, Zelda games do seem to be quite expensive in general for some reason. I'd say you might make a profit on a sealed MM3DS maybe 10 years down the line or so, but in general it's not worth it.

Eh, arguably. It's a pretty low risk investment if anything, but low reward too. Remakes can be tricky too, my local game shop has an unopened copy of Pokemon Leaf Green for $100, that originally sold for $40, so they probably gave the guy $70~$80.

But if the Vgfacts forums have taught me anything, Zelda fans are nucking futs, so go futs.

Sorry nope. Speculation in general (if you're new) is a beginners trap. It happens all the time and in the end, you'll get nothing back. Maybe an extra £10/$10 back in 30 years if you keep it sealed but no.
I don't like VGA Grading. But if you're going to grade something, then make it of a game of value. You can't grade/invest in a game that is clearly a multi million seller.

That's just from my point of view. I've been gaming collecting for well over 12 years and just taking a newly released game and keeping it sealed away just seems pointless. If you want to go for a Majoras Mask that can be used for investment, then maybe the Special Edition or 3DS XL.

That's the problem with people who don't know anything about game collecting. They think they have gold dust when they don't.

It's like when I go on eBay and people list Pokemon Yellow at Buy it Now £30 with the title
Pokemon Yellow mint Cartridge only Rare.
Rare? A game that sold 5 million+ is rare?

Knowing the game, the version, the system it's on, the price at the time, the sales, the amount printed etc all fall into how you should do investment.
It's like taking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 and keeping it sealed.

It's dependent on what game it is. You might see a game that you would think be rare in years time but when put on eBay the price is like 50 dollars.

Then again games can easily, and quickly, appreciate or depreciate.

But for a game like MM3D you're probably not going to get a return on the investment anytime.
