After the short expedition, Reed goes to "liberate" some clothes, attempts to go back to companions and tells them he recognized the spanish language nearby, thinks they might be in Chile.

Adessi, although content with his current garments, decides to venture off to the town (I believe we're in a town?) and search for clothing for them to not be distinguished as outsiders.

Yep ! A town, as seen by Reed, you can also choose now to go to one of the buildings described :)

Slade decides to check out the clothing store to see if there is anything to make him not stand out among the people. He also avoids talking to the locals as he doesn't know any mexican.

Here is a book about Galveston Texas, published in 1897. (wouldn't really call it a book actually, more a pamphlet but I digress)

There's actually an event that happened in Mexico near the current game date that I'm tying into the story over the next few episodes (unless someone goes ahead and transports everyone).
