Abe in Oddworld has nothing to do with Abe Lincoln.

Recently, you guys posted this little dooty [Image: tumblr_mpc0j50tkR1rw70wfo1_500.png]

And aside from this being really basic speculation instead of legitimate gaming trivia, it's also untrue and has been proven to be untrue.

Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning has said that Abe from the games is based on Abraham of the Old Testament. Quotes follow:

"Lanning stated that Abe was named after Abraham of the Old Testament, because of the similarities between Abe trying to discover himself and for what he believes was the difficulty in trying to determine the true source of Abraham's discovery of monotheism:

"In the Hebrew version, he was plagiarized from the first true father of monotheism, King Tut's father... and the lies and distortions of history leave us with a lump of truth so distorted, we can't find the original context any longer. Abe, in this case, was named such as a being that is trying to find out who he really is and what is it that he should really believe... So I felt Abe being such a pivotal figure in religious history (and massively represented one) was a perfect place to start for our first hero."

Just read the damn wikipedia page at least: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abe_(Oddworld)

I have to agree. This fact is kinda dumb. I tryed posting something that I could not prove about the megaman music and it was denied. This says it's not proven and it was posted. Not saying put my unproven trivia on the site. Just that we should not feature the unproven facts on the DYKG website (the one more people actually see).

To be fair though they have posted unproven facts before as actual DYKG pages, seems like possibilities interest them more than the other development facts I submitted about another game.

Man this is getting alot of hate, lol. I didn't expect the one that seemed like a theory would be the one to get a page. :x

I don't like bashing other people's trivia pages since it could be the only one they get and it is true that DYKG does post theories at times but normally the theory is backed up with hints from the developers, company, or someone close to the game. This is just saying the Abe and Abe Lincoln have the same name. I can point out that the prince and Aladdin are the same because they are both princes and live in the desert but it is just a theory with nothing else backing it up. Sorry. I know the page is not your fault.

Yeah I wasn't really trying to bash the guy who submitted it or be a dick about it, I just saw it and knew that it wasn't true so I posted it here.
We talked about it over PMs, we're cool furret bros now.

Well the good news is that we're going to go film an interview with Oddworld Inhabitants because of this. So, you know...

Sweet, what caused you guys to schedule this interview, just out of curiosity?

Basically, some people on Twitter told us to just ask if it's true, and so we did, they said it isn't, and so we said "anything else we should know? we should do an interview" and they said "ok" :P

I'm trying right now to find a Good Source of Abe's name Origins to post as Trivia to this Site. Whether it be from Abraham Lincolin or Abraham from the Bible.
