The Free Gaming Thread v2 : Electric Boogaloo
I don't see a problum with haveing Nintendo make a smart phone game. It worked well for Square-Enix when they made Kingdom Hearts Coded and ported TWEWY. So why not do the samething with Mario or Zelda?

As for the phone/handheld hibred, I see no problums with it. It sounds like a new idea.

Dynamic Anything is usually pretty balling. Difficulty and music are some of my favourites, especially when they blend into each other well, like in this theme.



It starts quite menacing and evil but as you get close to beating him it turns into a more cheerful and optimistic "We can beat him" theme about 2 minutes in, and it works really well in game.
I think Iwata specified that the console had nothing to do with this partnership, but some people are speculating it may still be a hybrid between a home console and a handheld gaming device.

Submitted my five runs for SGDQ (max amount possible). I'm already quite nervous. I hope I get something accepted. It took them 5 days longer than originally planned to get the GDQ site up and running, making submissions start late. Hopefully, come the end of July, you'll all see me playing Kirby's Avalanche, Dr. Robotonik's Mean Bean Machine, Shadow Dancer: The Secret Of Shinobi, Trackmania: Build To Race or Hot Wheels Turbo Racing at Summer Games Done Quick!

The entire process took an hour, and I also recorded myself submitting stuff. If I do get something in, I want to make a mini-documentary on my personal road to SGDQ, and submissions seems like a good place to start.
I was playing Trackmania and got an Author medal (I was over 5 seconds faster than the track's creator and designer on a 2 minute race) without any large skips or anything, just really good racing.

I feel proud of myself now. Just thought ya'll would like to know that vital bit of information.

That's actually very good going ! 

I always sucked at Trackmania, despite loving it to bits. I never managed to unlock any really fun pieces, though, which was a shame.

I just completed Shadow of Mordor and bloooody hell was that game amazing !

Disregarding the paper-thin storyline of "family is kill, 2vengeful4me", the depth of the game, and the fun derived from the mechanics and steady upgrades made this by far my favourite game for quite some time.

Just being able to mind-bend and orc to your will and 'nurse' it to the highest ranks of the Uruk army was great fun, and seeing your enemies evolve as you fought them was intense.

There was this one captain, Ugluk, who was impossible to beat, as he kept fleeing and I couldn't anchor him down with arrows. The first time we met, he was fairly weak, but did the whole running away. Give that I had peppered him with arrows, the next time we met, he had more armour on and an arrow shaft stuck in his belly. During this battle, I threw him into a fire, which made poor Ugluk flee, vowing to take me down. Not having met him in a while, I put him to the back of my mind before being goddamn ambushed by the bastard while looking for something. This guy now how burn marks over his body and lets me know that he's in constant pain. So I promptly chuck him off a cliff (this kills the Uruk).
Happy that I had finally killed him without him running away, I went on, doing missions, turning Uruks to my cause and making them climb the ranks. Then, as I'm doing a routine mission to save some slaves, who doesn't just pop out of the woodwork but flippin' Ugluk, announcing to me that he survived the cliff fall. He didn't look too good and had metal strips on his head to keep his brain in there. We fought, and I decided no longer to try and kill him. I'll turn the plucky blighter and help him climb the ranks and become warchief. I mean... he looks the part. Ugluk, by the end of the game, was warchief, had 7 bodyguards, and was my number one bro when I needed a recalcitrant captain taken care of.

RIP Ugluk in the final battle of the game. We had gone through thick and thin, fire and flames, and you will always live on in my memories

I've never seen such a subtle and tailored approach to personalised gaming. 10/10, truly.
Man, the first Metal Gear Solid had such an interesting soundtrack compared to the rest, it had that "complex" theme that games like Half Life and Metroid had. I guess Kojima was still in his Snatcher and OG Metal Gear stages in terms of music.

Echoes, Metallic electronic music and long eerie tracks that really made it feel like you were in huge danger in Shadow Moses.

Man, it's gotta be my favourite, even though I love 2 a much as I loved 1 I really think it's my favourite of the series, and I played it third (after 2 and 3).

One of my favourite parts is still the last few moments of the game where Spoiler:Campbell is replaced by Houseman and your mission is considered a failure as he launches a nuclear strike on Shadow Moses and you have to escape.

I like the fact that Spoiler:it's still part of the final battle since Liqid is on your heels the whole way through your escape. I hold on to the opinion that the MGS seires are horrible games to play but great games to watch someone else play. This game really proves that point. Kojima makes great movies and I want to see what he'll make now that he's gone from Konami and the Metal Gear name.
So, I recently played One Chance and Presentable Liberty. So many feels.

Pokemon Black/White actually have a dynamic soundtrack (technically). The drums of the route tracks don't play if you're standing still. My favorite types of dynamic/adaptive soundtracks is when games have specific songs for going underwater. God, I love me some steel drums. Or Luigi's Mansion where he hums along to the song, and whistles it if the room is lit up.

SSX Tricky is another prime example, the music would change when you were in the air (and of course start playing TRICKEYYYYY when you got your meter up to full).
Civ 5 sort of has one. It changes based on your current era, your status, if you're at war, etc. I say sort of because the game is so long that you're liable not to notice.

Nah, the Metal Gear games are great to play once you understand exactly how to play them. Like when I played MGS2 for the first time, I played on Very Easy, died fuck tons of times and it still took me 14 hours to complete, and going through MGS3, 1 and 4 took tons of time and I know I played them all incorrectly, but upon playing them again/helping my brother during bits it becomes such a fun game to play since I know how to hold up guards, fuck them over, do stupid shit to make a section easier. The game stops being about doing the mission but rather to mess around and have fun until you find yourself at the end of the section.

Heh, so I found something interesting that I might submit as trivia but anyhow.

So, in Metal Gear Solid 4 Kojima had a co-writer who wrote Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, now what's important about this is that PO's story is mainly about "Nanomachines" and through this Nanomachines became a big part of MGS4's story....well....it was the story, everything was nanomachines.

Anyhow, if you've ever wondered why Master Chief's armour changed from Halo 3 to Halo 4 while he was in Cryo sleep on a ship drifting in space there is apparently a system where his suit upgrades itself using Nanomachines when he cryo sleeps along with some help from Cortana.

What's interesting about this is that....
