General Anime/Manga/Otaku Thread
To answer the scientist/researcher question.

A Scientist is someone who uses scientific theories in their work.  A scientists can be a researcher.  However many researchers are referred to as scientists, even though they do not, in fact, use legitimate scientific theories.
For instance if I study the history of Japanese weapons by using anecdotal theories and reading contemporary sources to see what they tell me...I am a researcher, but I am not a scientist.  I did not come up with a hypothesis and test it to see if my theories were correct.  I just jumped into a book and drew a conclusion.  I would be a researcher.
Likewise, if I propose the hypothesis that Japanese samurai of the 15th century did not, in fact, use the katana in battle...but rather they used soap-soaked wands and blew bubbles at each other.  And I then delved into research sources and tested the applications of such 'weapons'.  I could be considered a scientist, doing research.  I would also be wrong, by the way...

Finally finished Part 4 of Jojo. Diamond is Unbreakable.

Currently, it's hard to rate them so far. I enjoyed 3 very much, but 4 really had something going for it as well. I'd say it'd go something like

3 > 4 = 2 > 1, but even then I feel as if 4 is better than 2, not equal to it.

Still, I've got tons more to read. I'm already 20 chapters into Part 5.

It's good to hear you are enjoying the series. But now... are you reading the colored scans or the good ole black and white?

Q: wait, there are colored sc-

A: Yes, they do exist. You see, back on 2012 Shueshiea released digital colored versions of the manga under the label of JOJO-D. A group know as "JoJo's Colored Adventure" group decided to pick up said digital releases and adapt them to the English language, using the translations from the previous white and black scans (with permission of course). By the time I'm making this post, parts 1,3,4 and 6 are Completely translated (they are currently working on Part 7)

The team at "JoJo's Colored Adventure" also teamed up with a group of fan translators to offer a new, re-translated part 5 scans since the current ones suffer from poor tranlation (characters have no personality, etc), because it's a translation of a Chinese version. It went Japanese -> Chinese -> English. Every time you translate something, SOME stuff gets lost in translation. It's inevitable. So when you do it twice, it gets exponentially worse.

Example 1

Example 2 (SPOILERS)

Hope that helps!

From what I gathered, Part 1 and 2 were read from Manga Fox or something, I honestly can't remember myself since I stopped using them. The translation and scans were pretty clean and from what I could tell portrayed the story well. Well, except for the end of Part 2 where it jumped from Joseph fighting Cars to Jotaro in Prison, then back to Joseph beating Cars for no real reason other that to confuse me?

Part 3 was half read on whatever site I was using and then I finished reading it from scans I had downloaded myself. These scans seemed to be similar scans from the website but of a much better quality since the scans for part 3 were horribly blurry on that website.

For Part 4 I read them using the scans. I checked and saw that the scans had improved translations and was written well as opposed to the weird way it was written on the website. Such as when Koichi sees Jotaro, my scan says "Whoa, this guy must be more than 190cm" whereas the website scans say "Whoa, this guy 6ft". I used my scans all the way through part 4. They were clean scans and had good translations from what I could tell. I believe they were translated around 2010.

Part 5 was definitely translated in 2010 as the scans I have specifically say they're from 2010. They seem to be improved translations as the translation team behind it said they're translating them and scanning them to be better than they were before.

I'll follow your advice, and look for coloured scans afterwards. I always thought some colours felt off when I saw them after reading the Manga.

I guess that explains your coloured picture of Kira Yoshikage and Killer Queen.

EDIT: OH DAMN. These coloured scans come with the music the Stand's names are based off. Now that's 10/10.

I think you misunderstood my post. I only said that Part 5 was poorly translated, not the whole freaking series.

Part 5 translation was done by someone else other than Ignition One (who did a fairly decent job).

Oh man Part 5. Started off okay, then had a whole 1000 pages of boring, then ended really well.

I mean, it might be my least favourite or tied with 1. (Nothing wrong with 1, but it's out-shined by the chapters afterwards.) I just felt that while the stands were interesting (King Crimson once I found out it wasn't just a copy of The World, Moody Blues, Requiem, Mr President, Gold Experience and more) it fell down by having like 9 different 10 part fight that didn't really escalate until the end and even then the way they were won was kind of stupid and made me laugh at how they actually worked. I mean I get trying to work out how stands work is part of the fight, but it felt like it was done better in Part 3 and 4, Part 5 just felt really boring when it came to fights.

I did enjoy the last few chapters. Notorious Big and Requiem were really cool since I enjoy stands that basically work by themselves and seem damn near invincible.

I hear Part 6 is the worst part for some, so I hope that I can at least finish it to see for myself. Hard to think it takes place in 2011.

Why?

Just the fact, Jojo started in the 1800's or so, and now it's 2011. It's been a long ride to read it all.

Part 6 was....alright, I guess. Spent the last 6 hours finishing off 13 Volumes of it. It had its ups and downs but overall I liked it more than 5. Jolyne was an interesting character and I enjoyed the banter between the girls sometimes, but that was usually cut off by a nine part stand fight that wasn't THAT good. I mean, Jailhouse Rock, Bohemian Rhapsody and Jumping Jack Flash was cool, so was Stairway to Heaven. Some fights felt kind of boring to read and I can't even remember some of them.

I sort of understood why people disliked it, Pucci dragged on for a long time and the ending was pretty bad, I mean it basically meant that Part 6 never happened and Emporio is the only person who remembers stuff that didn't happen. From what I hear Part 7 and 8 don't even take place in the Jojo universe or something, so I guess if it leads on from here I could see why it's disliked.

Right now I'd rate the Jojo's.

3 >= 4 = 2 > 1 > 6 > 5

Also, I can't stop listening to Killer Queen, so thanks Kira Yoshikage.

Hoping to complete Part 7 today or tomorrow and the onto Part 8 whenever.

Wait, you just finished part six? Damn son!! you are a fast reader!

Also, i though it was Made in Heaven, instead of Stairway to heaven.

Edit: after doing a quick research, the name was originally romanized as "Starway to Heaven" but then they changed it to "Made in Heaven", i prefer the latter.

They're all titles of old songs. Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, Jailhouse Rock by Elivs, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, and Jumpin' Jack Flash by the Rolling Stones.

Sarcasm mode: ON

NO WAY.......SERIOUSLY?!

Sarcasm mode: OFF

No offense man, but I'm 100% that literally every JoJo fan in existence knows that. What i was trying to say by my post is that the original name of that Stand was Stairway to Heaven (天国への階段 Suteawei Tu Hevun), based on the song of the same name by Led Zeppelin. Later, in the tankōbon release, it was changed to Made in Heaven, the name of a single by Freddie Mercury and an album by Queen. The reason for this was probably that Made in Heaven, with such lines as:

I'm taking my ride with destiny
       Willing to play my part
       Living with painful memories
       Loving with all my heart

   or

       When stormy weather comes around
       It was made in heaven
When sunny skies break through behind the clouds
I wish it could last forever,

fits the story of Part VI more than Stairway to Heaven does.

THAT is what i was trying to say  (-__-)
