Pikmin/Mario Sunshine
#1
For the Game Pikmin and Mario Sunshine:

Pikmin has an unused model, the model is Mario.

Not only that but according to Miyamoto,Pikmin is strongly inspired by the tech demo Mario 128.

From both piece of evidence,These suggest that Pikmin was originally going to be Mario 128.

But there is more,There is also a model of a kuribo(the Japanese name for Goomba)in the games data, oddly this is also the same model of Kug,which is an unused enemy from Super Mario Sunshine.

This strongly suggest that Super Mario Sunshine was also intended to be Mario 128.

I thought that the Mario 128 tech demo was used to show the power of the GameCube and as a basis to show the engine for what would be used for Pikmin, not inspired it which is what it says in the article.

You sure you read it right(except for the whole gamecube power show-off):

Source Wrote:Surprisingly, he went on to explain that while it was simply a tech demo showing off the power of the GameCube, it was also a kind of proof of concept that is still influencing design decisions today. First up, it was used as a basis for Pikmin's many on-screen characters and AI, but more importantly, it is now influencing Super Mario Galaxy's free-form level design and gameplay.

And what about the other sources that strongly suggest my theory?

Granted, even if my theory is wrong,it's still one good trivia.

EDIT:added more indent and bold to the quote.

I never suggested that you were wrong. It's possible that Mario 128 and its engine was reused for Pikmin which could've contained the files for the Kuribo (although we never saw it when the demo was shown to the public). The article also states that the demo has influenced design decisions for other games, possibly not just Pikmin fundamentally.

That's pretty cool, but consider those may have been just test models to see if everything's working. i believe you can't summon them through debugging, either.

I dunno, Pikmin was programmed strangely with all of its glitches and whatnot, Pikmin 2 didn't change much either. I was messing around with homebrew on the Wii version of 2 and apparently if you kill the water wraith before level 5 of submerged castle, it doesn't follow you anymore, and it won't show up on the last level either.

Also, they had to change some of the treasures in the international version, i believe it's just some bottlecaps but it doesn't make much sense to me.

I never really ran into any noticable glitches in the first game or second game, only that Pikmin tripped a lot and throwing wasn't fluent. how the actual gameplay aesthetics worked are what made it harder imo heh. also with the Waterwraith, that's weird, but seems like it'd be a really nice glitch too heheh...

it was much more than that actually.
look through this list and you'll see that many things were changed/removed/switched around in the PAL version of the game (mostly because of the items featuring international brand names or having Japanese references): http://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/Treasure_Hoard
also these because it's cool and interesting: http://tcrf.net/Pikmin_2/Unused_%26_Early_Treasures
