I'm betting either DMC, Monster Hunter, Lost Planet, or the Capcom VS franchises will be next. Street Fighter will be the very last thing they give up, because it's the only thing they see as 100% profitable all the time.

It's quite sad, honestly. I really thought Capcom would have learned from their mistakes of these past few years, but it seems they just don't care.

For a quick rundown, what series have we lost thus far? Breath of Fire, Dino Crisis, Power Stone, Rival Schools, Megaman and now Darkstalkers? Final Fight and Commando kinda got merged with Street Fighter and Bionic Commando, respectively, but a lot of other series seem to be on the edge too. They are killing more franchises than they are making and I have no idea why. At least I heard there's gonna be a new Strider but we just gotta wait and see, I guess...

Anyone outside of Japan lost out on Ace Investigations 2 unless they suddenly grew common sense and decided to localize it.

Personally I find that to be the complete opposite of Capcom. Capcom still put out quality products but it's their monetisation business model that fucks us over. I find Capcoms fanbase to be the root of the problem. Indecisive 'tards that don't know what they want and complain when they get anything.

Nothing has been lost. This generation alone we've seen HD remakes of Okami, Final Fight/Magic Sword and DMC, we've seen 3 brand new Bionic Commandos with Capcom showing their support by adding Spencer, Strider and Amaterasu in MvC3, we've seen Batsu from Rival Schools in TvC, they're bringing an update to Third Strike which is HUGE and some other stuff. What was merged?

For example:
RE6 was a step forward for the series yet people(morons) complain it's gone down hill or...more action orientated when it hasn't(people who haven't played it). They improve the mechanics and gameplay of RE4 and 5 to give the player full control and then dolts complain that they wanna go back to 1998 and crappy camera angels and bad controls.

DmC. Another great game that was hated on because Dantes hair was black. These are the type of gamers who complain about Call of Duty being the same crap year after year yet want the same crap year after year with DMC then complain when it changes(yet keeps the games mechanics).

Capcom are willing to listen to fan feedback and as it stands we're getting a new update to SSFAE2012. Plus, when it comes to fighting games in general, Capcom have always been in support. XBLA/PSN SF2 HF, HDRemix, SF3:3sOE, MvC1, MvC2 and Darkstalkers: Resurrection.

Not only that but Capcom are one of the few large companies willing to create and support brand new IPs. You look at games like Asuras Wrath, Dragons Dogma and Remember Me which have big names behind them are all extremely good games.

To say we've lost a series is some serious overexggeration. Lost Darkstalkers? We've just gotten a HD re-release(2 of them) on XBLA and PSN. Megaman MML3 being cancelled is bullsh- sure but that doesn't mean there isn't any support for him. Obviously since Keiji Inafune left so did Megamans presence but it's far from dead. Games like Breath of Fire, Rival Schools and Power Stone were always a niche part of the company that never gained the attention that a Resident Evil game or Street Fighter game did so from a business stand point, it's a safe move to make.

Capcom have done nearly(NEARLY) everything right. Not bringing ME2 overseas, cancelling MML3 and the insane business practice are huge problems but the games themselves are still what they're best at. It's the the fanbase that's the problem.

Sure, they make quality games. Otherwise I wouldn't buy them :P Still, they made Darkstalkers Resurrection so they could test the market for it yet they didn't even promote it very hard. Then they just go and say it was a "failure" even though it made the US top charts on PSN, thus making the chances we'll ever see Darkstalkers 4 quite slim.

I do agree though, the fanbases are a big problem in themselves. I swear, even if we had gotten some Megaman game recently they would still propably have complained about some aspect of it and determed it as "shit", like a lot of ignorant people seemed to do with DmC.

But we haven't had any sales figures from Darkstalkers Resurrection. Being one of the top best selling games on PSN might mean that it still sold poorly.

Apparently(apparently being the keyword word) Darkstalkers sold 22K on PSN/XBLA combined; which is a huge failure. Again, being the seventh best doesn't mean you made millions, it means you sold more than the others but the figures are still crap. It's a smart move by Capcom to not make a new game(which still isn't confirmed).

I'm on your side with "where is Breathe of Fire 3 and a new Rival Schools"? But I understand companies business strategies at times. It's a small market that won't give the company back the money it took to produce it. I still think they should give us a new Darkstalkers though... and localise ME2.... and stop with the effing DLC BS.

I guess you're right... But still, they did next to nothing to promote this supposed "new chance" for the series so it's no surprise that it didn't sell all that well. In any case, a new Capcom fighter is a sure seller on the market, it's just that a lot of people already have the originals so they don't bother with buying them again. I still don't understand why they haven't released Investigations 2 outside of Japan, though. From what I've heard the Ace Attorney series sells rather well.

I'm with you, meaning that I also think that Capcom is a great company. But you gotta admit that they've done a few mistakes:

Here, I want to talk about Resident Evil's evolution:

RE6 actually improved the gameplay in the right way (move while shooting, AT LAST!), but I really think it's going downhill, meaning that it's a 'scary game' that isn't scary. I'll give you Leon's 1st chapter, but for the rest, I don't know you, but I felt like I was playing an action game with zombies.

The ones who complain about this (including me) aren't saying to "go back to 1998 and crappy camera angles and bad controls." What we want is a game that makes us feel scared, a true horror game. It doesn't mean to take out the shoulder camera and all that.

Look RE: Revelations. It's a perfect example of what we're looking for. Good gameplay, low ammo (remember it's a 'survival') and a scary athmosphere.

Maybe what you guys really need is a new survival horror game without the Resident Evil branding, or better yet look elsewhere for your zombie horror fix. I mean seriously, how many games are associated with RE?

I'm with the above. I love the RE series but I go for completely different games when I want horror.

Btw. I disagree with the "crappy" angles. I think they make the old games have more charm. Without that they wouldn't be as playable today.

But they aren't playable. That's the thing, back then in the 90's sure, I'd shit my huggies over a zombie but they're incredibly laughable by todays standards. No horror, terrible voice acting and horrendus controls. Games like Silent Hill still keep with the horror theme despite the hard limitations. Some people tend to forget that at a younger age you're easily scared so people would think they were scarier but if you go back and play them, the series really hasn't changed aside from camera angle and gameplay. The HUGE EXPLOSIONS are in those games too and not once do you feel scared. Running around with a rocket launcher launcher, a shotgun and a handgun yet RE6 is the problem.

If I want survival horror then RE is a stilla great choice, whether (moronic) gamers like or not, surviving horror themes/elements still makes it a part of the genre. Dead Space/Silent Hill is easily the better games to choose than Resident Evil.

Oh, but I don't play the games for the horror. I play them because I find them fun as hell. I don't even know how many times I've replayed RE2 just for the sheer enjoyment of it. I just find the unique style of the games more fun than any regular 3rd person shooter from those times. That's what makes them more playable to me than a dated TPS. Heck, it's not even long when I bought a PC version of RE3 just because I wanted to try it on another platform.

Ah, same here. (Personally) I prefer the remakes on the GameCube. They show what the developers really wanted to do and fixed all the problems of the older games.

Yup. The REmake is a pretty fine game. I just wish they heard the pleas of their fans and remade RE2. If they are afraid of fans next asking for a RE3 remake they could just make the two into one game as they overlapped each other anyway.
