RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - Ouberry_13 - 03-17-2013 I forgot about Soul Hackers. I never payed the original, so I'm not sure what to expect. From the trailer, though, it seems to have the same first person dungeon crawling that I disliked in the original Persona. I might give it a chance, but I really can't get over that first person thing. It really throws me off for some reason. Also, now I'm positive I'm going to like Overclocked, if it is similar to FF Tactics and Disgaea as you say. If you don't like first person dungeon crawlers, Soul Hackers is probably not for you. I wouldn't buy it until you can try it. As for DS, it's not exactly the same. You don't attack on the map. When you go into battle it's kind of like a one turn classic SMT fight. You have yourself and two demons with you, and you can exploit weaknesses to gain an extra turn. Otherwise, on the main map, you have to move your units around, like the SRPGs I mentioned and placement can be very important for some levels. I thought I was going to be able to play Hackers this month ;_;. Saddening, but I still haven't had a chance to get a lot done with Fire Emblem yet. Between that, Etrian Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion, Monster Hunter, and Pokemon Mystery dungeon, I'm gonna have a busy rest of the month. Maybe that'll take the sting out of it. RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - Ouberry_13 - 03-17-2013 So, DS: OC is a combination of the modern standard SMT turn based fights and SRPGs? Huh. Now, I'm really interested. And yea, I really think I'm gonna pass on Soul Hackers. It looks good, but I can't get over the first person thing. I love the gameplay (or what I assume it is, if it follows the modern SMT type of gameplay), but I don't know why I don't like that perspective for dungeon crawling. It's the same thing for the original Persona. I love the gameplay, absolutely loved it, but for the life of me, I could not enjoy the dungeon crawling only because of the pov they selected for it. RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - Mass Distraction - 03-18-2013 While I haven't played any of the games (yet) I've seen Persona: Trinity Soul, the Persona 4 animated series and all the Megami Tensei movies. I gotta tell you, finding Tokyo Revelation was a hassle. Currently I'm looking forward to the animated version of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2. I hear it's directed by the same person as the Persona 4 animation and I loved that one. As for games, I'm looking forward to Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, maybe that one'll get me into both series :P I was also looking forward to Pony Emblem but I guess that project has gone under as there has been no new updates on the site or the YT page. It did look really well done, though. Oh, and I'll be getting Persona 4 Arena as soon as I get some other games finished. Gotta love Arc's fighters. RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - Mutsukki - 03-18-2013 This is one series I really want to get into, but I find it hard too. I love the visuals and the art and everything, but the game itself is kinda hard to embrace (at least for me). I just finished the first Persona remake on the PSP and got the bad ending because I got ONE question wrong in a scene, ugh. I feel like the game's gameplay is outaded (which is alright considering how old it is) so it seems more like a chore than a fun challenge to redo the game. I'll probably do it anyway, but I hope Persona 2 on PSP is a little better. Aside from that I played the original SNES SMT and it was pretty good, but never finished. (Also after finishing Catherine I felt like getting into the series even more, even if they're not related) RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - Ouberry_13 - 03-18-2013 ^If you want the full Persona 2 story, there's actually two games to it. The one of the PSP is an enhanced port, but the second half is on PSN, and it's only just a translated port. Still fine, from what I've seen of it (I haven't played either P2 games, yet), but just thought you should know. They have much different, more updated gameplay that's a lot easier to get into. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is really great though. It's the only Persona game where the cast is mostly made up of adults. RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - BumblebeeCody - 04-03-2014 Question, should I even bother playing Persona 4: Golden to the end? Nearly everything about the game is pointless. The quests are a waste of time as they don't actually develop the characters in anyway. Fusions are also pointless since you only need to use Izanagi and can Cleave everything that stands in your way. All that's left is the story which means I should watch the Anime. 26 hours in and it's getting pretty meh. All that's left is the story which means I should watch the Anime. 26 hours in and it's getting pretty meh. The anime came out before Golden so you'd be missing a lot of stuff that was added. They anime also wrecks a few character's personalities, but especially the MC, who they made a total asshole for some reason. Oh yeah, the game has some really dumb quests, that's for sure. As you get further into the dungeons you will need some better Personas to help you out. I'm not sure if this is your style, but Persona games have a lot of character interaction segments and scenes you'll just be sitting and watching. These are actually a lot funnier to see in game and some were not carried over to the anime. These games are not everyone's cup of tea, so it would be hard to say if you're going to start having fun or not. On a side note, Devil Summoner is coming to the PSN pretty soon. I highly recommend that game, especially to SMT newbies. The game is a ton of fun even thought it's nowhere near as difficult as others in the franchise, plus it's very lighthearted. RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - BumblebeeCody - 04-03-2014 The thing is, I am having fun. I've just come to a realisation(again 26 hours in) that I have a lot off quests to do. I don't plenty already but when I look back on what I got, it was a small amount of money or an item that I've still yet to use. Because you don't gain MC Exp or Persona Exp then quests aren't even needed. The same can said for Fusions since I've done nothing but use Izanagi. If the Anime has ruined characters personalities then I'll play through the game since admittedly I like the character interactions, but I'm gonna skip the rest. I bought into the hype but I'm not blinded by this games huge obvious flaws. One thing you did mention is it's lightheartedness which I actually like. It's nice to see a game that's Japanese AND lighthearted but not "Japanese" (Not being loud about it's development origin like Animes do) or that it's subject matter doesn't give a depressing vibe to it. RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - TheTrueBoss997 - 04-03-2014 Personally I love the Persona series. A friend said to go get it so I got it I found it very enjoyable because I'm a huge fan of a great story. I have played all Persona games but it was the ones with the Social Links that got me hooked. I did find it very challenging at the beginning (1st and 2nd dungeon) but then it got pretty easy because you get the hang of the things. Persona 4 Golden is probably my favorite. In terms of the anime I did enjoy it but I does miss a lot of things that were in the game and/or altered it. I also suck at Persona 4 Arena... I'm just waiting for Persona Q and Persona 5. The only other SMT I know of is Digital Devil Saga because I'm watching a walkthrough of it. I saw that and found I had more than enough in my wallet to buy it. So I got it, downloaded it and will play it once I've played through the 20+ other games I've got slated to play now that I'm out of a job and got some free time right now. RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - BumblebeeCody - 04-16-2014 With all that being said I'm now approaching the 60 hour mark. This game. Why is it so good!? D: RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - SuperMasterGamer - 04-16-2014 I got Shin Megami Tensei IV for Christmas because a few recommend me this game to start off with and I died on the first mission in the game. RE: Shin Megami Tensei Related - BumblebeeCody - 04-29-2014 Just completed Persona 4: Golden. I'd definitley say this is one of the best JRPGs I've ever. Would also put it as one of the most memorable and honestly, amazing games I've ever played. Damn that was really some experience. |
