RE: Is sonic just as legendary as mario? - Arjahn - 06-17-2013 AS legendary as Mario? No, not even close. Don't get me wrong, he is/was insanely popular (he was in Wayne's World for fuck's sake) and rightfully so, but Mario saved the entire industry. Saying that Sonic is as legendary as Mario is like saying HD TV is as legendary as Color TV, it's a weird argument but one of the options changed the fundamentals of an entire industry, and the other just made it prettier. That came out wrong... I'm not hating on Sonic by the way, I have one sonic friend. RE: Is sonic just as legendary as mario? - Artwark - 06-18-2013 Yeah you're right guys. That's just what I thought about him. I guess we'll never know till he gets it right. RE: Is sonic just as legendary as mario? - MexicanAnime - 06-18-2013 If it means anything, Sonic&Knuckles 3 will always be legendary to me. That came out wrong... I hope you don't mean that Mario saved the Gaming Industry with Super Mario Bros, because there was only a crash in America, the rest of the world was unaffected. Although, I'll give it to you, Mario was the first plat former. Donkey Kong came out in 1981. Pitfall, and similar genres came after. I believe it's the first. Well to be completely honest, no. Why? Mario has a lot more going for it. I know a lot of people may say how Sonic and Pac-Man both have a huge fanbase and both get a decent amount of games that have a decent amount of sales but the fact of the matter is that Mario has a way bigger fanbase and is basically held on the same pedestal that Micky Mouse is on for animation. It is more so that he was the first gaming icon, rather then the fact that his games did anything to really benefit gaming. More people fell in love with the plump plumber rather then the too cool for school hedgehog or the yellow circle that eats dots. |
