Wow, what a translation error. Note that I've only seen this series dubbed in Finnish where those were, in fact, called rice balls.

It's actually not a translation error; it was done intentionally. 4Kids didn't want anything Japanese making it into the dub.

Ah, similar to how Maya's affection for ramen was changed to hamburgers in the Ace Attorney games. I still find it weird that they insist on doing this.

Its a cultural defense thing. Like it or not, there are actually a lot of people in Japan that think we're stupid, and they figure the closer to our culture, the better to avoid confusion.
