I can see that being more of a dc decision. They usually do a good enough job when it comes to creative freedom but anything really out of their comfort zone gets shut down quick. Batgirl can't be lesbian, stuff like that. Besides, Plastic isn't their big fish so its kind of a gamble within itself to them, seeing as a lot of that is older cartoon style humor.
I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but I can definitely see them being scared of it.
