I know that a woman stood up and spoke for women's rights so long that someone had to put a back brace on her. I know she was interrupted close to the end in hopes that she would stop speaking long enough to cancel her filibuster.

I wasn't referring to that case alone, just filibusters in general.

Are you referring to ones that never occur, or ones that begin but don't finish, or ones that are interrupted?

What I'm referring to is that often, political parties say "we're going to filibuster this bill, so there's not much point keeping it alive." This often leads to the tabling party backing down because of how time consuming filibusters are for very little result. However, the first party never actually intended to filibuster and therefore use the threat of it as a tactic to kill a bill.
Many people see that as undemocratic. Others are annoyed because a filibuster should only be used if you're passionate enough to stand and talk without even leaning for 14 hours.

Which is an interesting point and question you asked. What if I was passionate about being marriage only being between a man and a woman?

So does anyone have a new idea to start this thread up again?

What's best, dogs or cats ?

I easily prefer dogs over cats, but if a cat is not a dick I don't mind them.

Cats, just because it is so much less work to care for them.

RE: Weekly Debate Thread - MexicanAnime - 10-01-2013

Cats are cool, but dogs are called Man's Best Friend for a reason.

RE: Weekly Debate Thread - retrolinkx - 10-01-2013

In terms of being an animal.

Dogs > Cats

In terms of funny internet pictures

Cats > Dogs

RE: Weekly Debate Thread - Beware of Cuccos - 10-02-2013

The correct answer is 'cats'.

Oh yeah, this thread exists.
Since I'm terrible at remembering, feel free to start a new debate and what-not whenif I forget.

Anyways, new sorslor topic (Although Dogs kick kitties asses): Should consenting Euthanasia be legal?
Specifically, if someone is in terrible pain and dying, should they be allowed to ask someone to "pull the plug"

You mean, should people be allowed to request an Angel of Death?
Absolutely. If someone is near death, and fully aware of what's going on and capable of making those decisions, and someone is willing to be said Angel of Death, then yes. I feel like it's along the same lines of DNR, just a bit more straightforward.

After reading YouTube comments even I'm up for it. Fuck this planet.

In all seriousness, yeah. Same with abortion, it's someone's own body that they have control over and no-one should tell them what's right/wrong.

It should be legal; you can't just let children go to the orient without consent from an adult.

Eh, if you gonna die, you gonna die. No need to draw out the process.

RE: Weekly Debate Thread - Hexadecimal - 10-03-2013

Back when I attended the crappy Christian school I really liked the pastor that we had. Sadly he had a genetic disease that caused him to lose all control of his muscles, but I was told his mind was unaffected. I couldn't imagine being in his position and I would, without a doubt, request that I be put out of my misery when I was unable to take care of myself if it were an option.

I've actually read stories where the person who was ailing begged their spouse to help them end their life. Can you imagine being the person left behind? Yes, you helped end your loved one's suffering, but at the same time I would think it would also haunt them. It would be so much better for the person to slowly drift away peacefully from a chemical, surrounded by their friends and family. I think that would be a wonderful way to die instead of lasting a few more years in endless pain and not even really living anyway.
