Game Grumps discussion
#61
I really like all the new ideas and I think people really just handled all the news so badly. I for one actually like Steam Train idea because it will bring PC games to the channel and not just consoles. As for Jons departure, I am very sad about it, but it's for the best of his original channel.

Steam Train I can do without, but Dan's fun.

I figured this departure would mean the end of the show, but guess not. I decided to check in and see what has become of the show since I stop caring, and it's hardly a show about video games now as it's a show with video games in the background while two guys who happen to be internet famous makes noises for 10 or so minutes. The show's terrible.

-There's hardly any discussion about the game itself, and they break off into tangents that are either vaguely tied to the game or not at all.

-There's a ton of episodes where no progress is made, because they're trying to juggle learning the game while being entertaining and it's not working. (While fans say it does, they're more than likely there to listen to their voices. Yes, not so much listen to them talk, but to just hear them speak and say anything that could be turned into a GG animated skit or some dumb meme to spam in the comments.)

-Most of the game footage is unedited and when it is it's sped up footage instead of just cutting it out. You can fit more content (where progress is made) in a episode if you just cut it out. Trim that shit out.

You could say that the point of show is just two guys just hanging out and playing video games for the internet, but if you're gonna do that at least do games where one of you is competent enough at the game so it doesn't drag on and you end up canceling the playthrough.

This seems almost hypocritical of me, because I love Lowtax's playthrough of Cry of Fear. On one hand they do everything I just said, but on the other they manage to keep things on track. Some of the boring bits are cut out, most of the commentary is focused on the game, (Though it's mostly neagtive about the game and its design decisions) when they break off into a tangent unrelated to the game it's for a joke or pun that lasts for about a minute, and significant progress is always made in each update.

In the end I think Game Grumps' idea of making playthrough Let's play videos was based on the Youtube standardâ„¢ and while they first thought that let's play is a bad thing; noone seemed to cared because, "Hey it's Egoraptor and Jontron!"

Dan's awesome man. Yeah jon was cool but you gotta admit he was pretty annoying at times.

Can't wait to see Dan in sonic 06 part.

Apparently was wasn't said was that, JonTron had a huge fight with EgoRaptor over one of the episode(I think the Bayonetta one) in which a (poor taste) joke was said. This in turn caused them to slow down the amount of videos released followed by further arguments off camera. Instead of taking it further, JonTron said it would be best if they were to depart since he still has his "safe zone" (JonTron Show) to go back to and they already had Dan as a replacement.
Pretty sad but that's the main reason. At least they're both doing their own thing and we get to see more JonTron Show.

Also, agreed with Lightmatt, though, taking Game Grumps seriously is probably a problem in the first place. There are shows like Two Best Friends play which feature players who know A LOT about gaming, whereas Game Grumps seem to be more of a 'kick back and relax' type show. Mess around regardless of the commentary. Eh.

I'm sad that Jon left, but Danny seems to have pretty much the same buddy buddy chemistry with Arin that Jon had, he's just a different dude.

I watched Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! and Super Mario Bros 2. and it still felt like the same show.

I watched Steam Train as well, but I'm not sold on that entirely just yet. It's the same concept I know, but you know.

The new Grump intro bothered me the most of anything, if anything. I mean, my niggle is that they could have called Danny the "Other Grump" or another pseudonym instead of "Not so Grump"

'cause you know?
In my heart?
Jon will always be my Not So Grump <3

Anyway, this is Jon going on (or back to) new endeavours so godspeed to him.

Unfortunately my guinea pigs prefer chilling out in this room for some reason, meaning I need more stuff on the computer to watch while it's snuggle time. Am I understanding it right that I should watch the earlier Game Grumps videos and ignore the newer stuff? I was going to start with the list of videos provided on page 3.

However, if I got sick of their Star Fox 64 video, do I even have a chance of getting into those othervideos? Sorry for being such a negative Nancy on this thread ><

Definitely the older stuff.

I really don't mind most if not all of their content, then again I am not a very picky person.

Start early, but it really doesn't matter so much so long as you start at the beginning of the game. I recommend all kirby, and megaman games.
