I got bored waiting for the actual game to arrive since the store I ordered it from had not gotten the game in the store yet, so I made this.

So I recently found out that a Street Fighter fan film is on the making. Looks good so far.

Well, Capcom revealed the Arcade edition of SFV today:

From the video description: "From the beginning, we promised that you’ll only need to purchase the original Street Fighter V, which we’re sticking to. All the new gameplay-related content – Arcade Mode, Extra Battle Mode, a second V-Trigger, the Gallery, and more – will be available as part of a free in-game update for current players!"

So there you have it. Technically Capcom didn't break it's promise.

I'm sorry but that technicality is so freaking minor it doesn't count. You don't release a second version of a game in January, one of the most successful months of any given year, without the intent to profit. They broke their promise, flat out.

I disagree. When Capcom said there wouldn't be any new editions they meant in the terms of new games you had to buy. To be more specific, Capcom said (and I quote) that you will "only have to buy one disc" in order to keep playing the game.

Back then, every time a company released a new edition of a game you had to buy a whole new game every time. For example, back then you HAD to buy Super Street Fighter II Turbo even if you owned the champion Edition or the vanilla version. This is not the case here.

The only people that will have to pay for SFVAE are people who haven't bought the game yet. People who already own the vanilla version will recieve the Arcade Edition as a FREE update. They have reiterated many times that (and again, I quote) "you will only have to buy one disc" . The physical version of AE isn't even full price (60$) anyway, it's just 39.99$.

I mean, come on. Back when Lab Zero Games did something similar with Skullgirls by releasing Skullgirls: Encore everyone was praising them for that. Why it is different when it comes to Capcom and SF?

Anyway, so Yoshinori Ono released a statement regarding this update.

That video pisses me off. He starts off with "Oh thanks for dealing with our BS incomplete game we wanted you to pay full price for" and then starts patting himself and Capcom on the back for the free stuff they put into the game that should have come with the release of it from the start. By the way, to make things clear here, I have SFV already, so this in no way effects my wallet or anything, but it still comes off to me as a broken promise and with that video throws just enough ego boosting into it all that it really pisses me off. I'm also not accepting or debating any defense of their actions either because I see this as nothing but a promise broken and an opportunity to break it further when people support it. Yoshinori and the rest of the people who worked on or are still working on the game a pack of liars, plain and simple. If you defend them I will simply ignore you, because I cannot agree in any sense that you have a good argument. If they weren't making a new edition of the game, they would never even think to charge for this new content in any regard and instead release it for free without that release date and 40 dollar price tag for anyone who doesn't already have the game.

Yeah... I think the best we can do in a situation like this is to agree to disagree.

Here's the thing about SFV. For starters, it's typical business to sell the newest edition of a game when it releases right? Street Fighter has done it in the past, Destiny did it, Fallout did it, even PS3 versions of the Uncharted games became less popular on the market after Uncharted: Drake's Collection was released, and PS3 was still at the tail end of getting major titles released at the time on it despite current generation having been out for a while. It's just common practice no? And that will be the excuse for a lot of people when the Arcade Edition releases in 2018, but here's the thing, that arcade Edition will sell for a lot more than the game is currently selling for new. I checked GameStop, Amazon, Ebay even just google shopping which often shows overpriced versions of things the most expensive place was the google shopping tab, but even then it sold for a mere $22.51 US, and that was the best match result. Going down just four spots, a version of the game is priced at $8. When I looked at Amazon, it was selling for $19.91 on average, Ebay was selling it for $16.50 and GameStop was selling it for $19.99 but GameStop was particularly interesting because, unlike all the other places I looked, it wasn't listed on GameStop's options to click right away as you type in your search results. GameStop has a total of 5 options to pick from when typing in a search, Street Fighter II, Pop! Games - Akuma -Only at GameStop, Funko Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Box -Only At GameStop, Super Street Fighter 2 and Pint Size Heroes: Street Fighter - Only At GameStop. So with two versions of Street Fighter, which clicking either will lead to all the versions of the game that GameStop sells, and three different things that are just figures, as far as GameStop is concerned, SFV is old news, as it should be, because it's getting closer to two years old. However, when the new version comes out, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Arcade Edition will be in that top 5 search for a while, namely because it will be the most expensive thing related to Street Fighter that will end up in their top 5 results. Now of course you could buy it on Steam, but they've made the choice to sell it at $29.99 so almost no one is going to do that. I tell you all of this to make the point that Street Fighter V is already a successful title. On PS4 it's sold 1.03 million copies, and on Steam, it's sold at least 336,815 units. While that's considerably down from Street Fighter IV, that's to be expected. For starters, it's only sold on one console, and sure it's the one that sold the most copies for the game at around 4.18 million, the 2.94 million units on the 360 isn't anything to turn your nose at either. Now while it's true that this new version of SFV doesn't have any stages or characters as incentive to buy the game, but if they can sell enough versions of the new game, it gives them reason to make another version down the line after this upcoming version becomes to cheap or doesn't show up in results, or even perhaps a 9th generation version when those consoles come out. If there's one thing I've learned about gaming over the years, it's that if you let a shady practice go and it succeeds, it will be repeated, and here's it's easy to do that, because all they have to do is apologize for lying, and most people end up buying another version of the game down the line. It's a typical rinse and repeat formula. If we give them this, and allow them to resell the game at about twice the price that it's currently selling for, it will happen over and over because it makes them money, and damn it all to their promises, their word will mean nothing in the face of making more cash.

I'm just bringing this up for all to see where I'm coming from.

IIRC the thing with Lab Zero was more to do with legal reasons and its departure from Sony.

Sonic The Hedgehog was revealed as a guest character for Super Smash Bros Brawl 10 years ago.

Easily one of the best guest characters of any Fighter. He just fits perfectly into Smash.

Guy's master Zeku is the latest addition to the Street Fighter V roster.

Those transformation bits were interesting. Does he simply disguises himself as a young man or somehow he actually turns younger for a brief moment? Whatever the answer is, one thing is certain: Capcom will use this in order to confuse the living hell out of Ibuki's hormones.

Oh yeah, and I hope the win quotes other characters have against him aren't just: "Did you just turn yourself younger? HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!1?1! :OOO".
