Spyro's original voice (Carlos Alazraqui) and personality attracted a bit of bad feedback, with some people complaining that he was a 'cocky bastard'. For all subsequent games his personality was toned down to be more likeable, and his new voice (Tom Kenny) was softer.
It's funny you bring up Spyro's change in personality. In a Developer Commentary I found, they said that one of the things they canged going from Ratchet and Clank 1 to Going Comando was Ratchet's personality. They wanted to rescue him from being "the asshole he was in the last game" which is why he became nicer to Clank and has a new voice. I'm wandering if they realize that they made two unlike able guys back to back. (2:20)
