Improved Site Navigation
#1
Hey guys,

Another quick update today to let you know that we've improved the navigation at the top of the page. You know, that thing you use to get around the site? Yeah... You might have noticed that's it's changed. Maybe not.

Just thought I'd let you know about it, just in case you hadn't noticed. We're aware that the red portion looks like it has a bit of blank space... We'll just have to come up with something to fill in the gap.

Let us know if you find any issues, though I don't imagine you'll encounter any. Any suggestions as well, of course, would be greatly appreciated :)

All the best,
Dazzaroo.

Uh, I have 2 issues.

I don't think we should enforce the Xbone meme, I understand it shortens the name but I think some people may dislike it. It isn't technically the official name as far as I know, so we should change it to Xbox 1 or something.

Also, I think we should move the sections after PS1 to the right hand side of the page or even better, add them to the side of the VG Facts bar in white. It's very distracting to have on here going over posts and such if you use 720p resolutions like I do. (even if it is in red)

Something like this would be nice, if it's possible.

Also, please don't take this criticism harshly. I love the fact you guys are doing stuff with this site to improve it, it's better than letting it rot and then adding it in after complaints are made about it. It shows you guys aren't lazy.

I'm not sure I follow your concern about smaller resolutions. The site is fixed at 930px wide and all of the text fits within the black bar properly. Resizing up or down won't change that. It could be that you're using a cached version of the stylesheet so do a CTRL + F5 a couple of times and see if that fixes your issues. Maybe provide a screenshot of what you're seeing first and/or especially if it doesn't go away after refreshing?

As far as our use of "XBONE" goes, while I'll admit that part of it is just to be a little silly, the fact of the matter is that there is no current "official" acronym/abbreviation for it yet. XB1 could work but that's not proper either - the official title is "Xbox One", with "one" spelled out so using "1" in its place is just as improper. Poor planning on Microsoft's part is not really our fault. :P

Your image demonstrates an impossible option. We cannot show anything outside of the 930px width we have implemented as it won't be displayed to anybody on a lower resolution.
In any case, why those console specifically? That seems utterly random and nonsensical...

The XBONE acronym is not a meme. It is a term used to reference the console at the moment. In the future, if this changes, we will adjust to see fit. But "Xbox One" takes up too much space.

I agree. The Xbox one is a dumb name as it is, but really there is no way to abbreviate it with out it sounding dumb. I prefer the XBONE to the XBO, as it looks like you forgot to add the second X in Xbox.

Maybe, and this is just a thought, there could be a section for individuals, like collaborators, or vg world trivia, not necessarily pretaining to any one game or console, like http://www.vgfacts.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=999

The problem I was having was that, for some reason it was just red text all over the posts, as in there was no black bar, it was just red writing on the forum background and nothing else, interfering with posts and such. It only seemed to effect me though, since now I can see this black bar and white writing and everything.

As for the consoles, they're all Nintendo consoles I just needed a simple example, and that was as simple as you can get.

It started as a meme, and soon became general practice to call it an Xbone, it's not the official name (even though Microsoft took the domain name), but if it takes up space, then it's your choice I guess.

I guess, there is no proper way to abbreviate it, but I was just saying that there may be some complaints in the future.

I think it should have 180 on its page.

Hehe, XBone.
But as for seriousness, shouldn't the "ALL" Category lead to all consoles instead of all games, since you have the console names listed?

The console links bring you to a list of games filtered to include only that console so, naturally, the all link would bring you to the unfiltered list.
