The "what the hell was that game again" thread for forgetful people.
#31
Hello avid gamers, I need your help with remembering the title of the first video game I could ever recollect playing. I vaguely remember climbing up a series of small ledges with a waterfall flowing nearby and a rainbow being projected off said waterfall. If anyone could possibly associate this scenery to an E-rated, cartoony, adventure/platforming type of game for the original PlayStation, it would be very much appreciated.

Does Pandemonium fit the bill?

Sorry, I really wanted to reply to your post on that other thread but I didn't want to derail it when we had this :P

I don't think it's Pandemonium from what I have searched of it, but I do remember playing that game years ago as well. Great suggestion.

Hmm... Do you remember what your player character was? Human, animal, robot, etc?

Also, was it 2D or 3D? Sidescrolling or behind the character?

Unfortunately, I can't recall any details about the main character. If I had to make an educated guess though, I think I was controlling an anthropomorphic animal, given its major appeal back in the 1990s with the likes of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. However, I do know that the game was primarily 3D-oriented and would allow me to change camera views.

Alright, if I had to guess (Im not looking anything up, either), I would either say:

Ty the tasmanian tiger
or...
Croc (Dunno full title)

Ty was on the PS2, not PS1

I remember this racing game on the ps2 where you were this car on a slot car racing track and it was set around a house and you can switch from which slot and use weapons. I think it was called ____rider but I'm not sure.

I do remember Croc, but that isn't it either. I have a feeling that we are on the right track though. If I remember correctly, it was sort of a collectathon game, similar to Banjo-Kazooie.

The Gex series was somewhat similar.
How about Gex 3 ?

I don't think that Gex 1 was a colectathon game (though I could be wrong). I think if he was talking about Gex, it would most likly be Enter the Gecko (it even has a cartoon would with a waterfall in it).

I am in awe... I was searching for that cartoon world that you had mentioned and I found gameplay footage for a segment called 'Out of Toon'. It turns out that that level does contain a waterfall and everything else I described, and so I had instantly made the connection. It seems that my memory was a bit skewed, but here is a side-view screenshot of it:

See, I didn't acknowledge the fact that there was a giant TV sitting there. Not only this, but instead of there being just one rainbow, there are actually plenty, and they all have collision detection.

Thank you very much, gamemaster1991 and SERIOUSLY THOUGH, and to the few others who helped out. It was definitely a nostalgia trip, but I now know that I had my first gaming memory with Gex: Enter the Gecko and I will always remember it.

(Thank you gamemaster1991!)

So I thought about a game yesterday but I can't remember the name, all I remember:

You play as a red fly, the first level is in a garage. It was on pc.

... I think. I played it only once at someone's house. I took a look at a list (+ all the comments) with insect games but no result. And it's not Mister Mosquito of course.

What did you have to do in the game? I mean, a game with a red fly... I cant really picture what you would do as a fly.
