Dead Poets Society: Robin Williams plays John Keating, a teacher at a preparatory school with a long history of standards and traditions. Keating's teaching methods are unorthodox and his students must weigh the pressures of their wants and feelings against those of faculty and parents.

I will not go into spoilers but I will say that though the story branches out, the beauty of it is that Spoiler:most of what happens is left without an ending as the final scene ends with a climatic cliffhanger with a message.

I don't know why I haven't seen this before. Easily one of my favorite movies starring Robin Williams.

When We First Met: A guy gets friend-zoned by the girl he's in love with and accidentally finds a way to travel back in time 3 years to when he and his love interest first met and will them wake up 3 years later to find out the consequences of his actions. Netflix exclusive as far as I know.

The acting is not bad, headed by Adam Devine, and the movie keeps a comedic atmosphere without making me laugh and I could relate to some of the character's feelings.

It's a bit of a "chick-flick", but it's not so serious that a guy can't enjoy it by himself. I did.

So today I watched The Red Turtle.

That was brilliant. Without the need of dialogue, the movie managed to convey the desperation, frustration, doubt, intrigue, happiness and madness the protagonists experience. Instead, it uses the true scope of animation and a great sound desing in order to tell the a very simple yet effective story. I would like to say more but given that this is a cinematic expirence I'm afraid I might spoil you the whole thing.

On a side note, the secondary characters, who serve as comic relief like the crabs, are very entertaining and fun.

Rewatched the Lord of the Rings trilogy since I've only seen parts of Fellowship, watched Two Towers about 15 times since it was the only DVD I had for the DVD player when my family drove across the country about ten years ago, and I've seen Return of the King once or twice.

Fellowship doesn't have much action at all, the entire movie is basically one giant chase scene. There's Weathertop and the final skirmish with the Uruk-Hai, but aside from that it's really held back. It's a bunch of character development and world building with some really tense escape scenes. I mean, I've seen the sequels, I know Frodo isn't going to die, but hot damn when they're running for the ferry at night is it nerve wracking.

ALSO, Merry and Pippin cause like 95% of the problems in Fellowship. It's nice to see them do stuff in the following films, but hot damn are they massive fuck ups in the first go around.

Then we get to Two Towers which is pretty much like watching a really good D&D game while a low key one plays out in the background. I don't love the Frodo Posse as much in TT, it sort of lulls when they're with the Gondor militia, but it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination and I really like the Smeagol character development. Feels kinda crummy at the end when Gollum gets pissy again, feels like Frodo could've just said "Hey they were gonna kill you if I didn't squeal, really sorry it won't happen again." I mean it's perfectly in crazy-character for Gollum not to accept and to get plotty, but it's kinda weird that Frodo never even really tried.

Then we get to Return of the King and it's a non stop thrill ride. I love this movie sooo much, think it's better than Towers but not quite as good as Fellowship. It's really apples and oranges though between the two, hard to judge. Some of the battles drag-on a bit, same with a few of the Aaragorn scenes, but god the Frodo crew is fantastic, the siege of Minas Tirith is really well done, and I'm a sucker for Denathor. Tiny nitpick is when Gandalf yells "Get the women and children out of here!" after the Orcs breached the gate. The fuck, is there somewhere they could've gone? Why would they not go there sooner?


So to sum it all up, good movies are good.

I might go see it just for him. I miss hearing his voice in cartoons.

Annihilation.

There are very few movies that justify going to the theatre. For the "general audience", its to watch a heavy spectacle bonanza filled with cheap thrills and pushing a franchise along.

Movies like Annihilation is an anomaly because this movie is an example of a cinematic experience that MUST be seen at a theatre. There is no way around it, you can hate it or love it but it's the experience itself that will leave you mesmerized. The first 2 acts is intriguing but it's the ending that really seals the deal.

Plus it's the same director that made Ex Machina.

I'm looking for a Mexican movie about three dudes (the son of a business man and the thieves who were going to rob him) who got trapped in a elevator during a three-day holiday.

Does anyone know the name? I watched a small segment a year and a half ago and I can't remenber it.

So the other day I decided to ask actual Mexicans about this movie... either they mistook it for a Bolivian movie that follows the same premise or they just didn't knew what I was talking about. How lovely....

I finally found the movie. It's called "El Ascensor" (the elevator) and it's indeed, a Bolivian movie. The reason why I remenber hearing Mexican slang is simply becuase one of the actors potrayed a Mexican character!

It took me six months, but I finally solved the mistery.

Today I've wathced the second and third Die Hard movies.

Die Hard 2: About as enganging and action packed as the original; the wit displayed in this film saved it from being a mediocre follow-up. Bruce Willis once again gives a pretty good performance as the lead character John McClane, althought the villians weren't left behind either.

Die Hard with a Vengeance (aka Die Hard 3): This one stands out for being more fast paced that the original (not that I disliked the "slow" pacing of the other two).  Samuel L. Jackson nailed as Zeus Carver, a normal guy with some bias who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. The introduction of puzzle-solving sequences were quite creative and gives a breath of fresh air to the franchise.

As someone who watched the original first two movies (i have yet to watch the other two) this is...umm, who asked for a reboot of this anyway? The original movies were good as how they are, there's no need for a reboot/remake/sequel in my opinion. Meh, who i'm kidding, i'm still gonna watch the first three episodes in order to satisfy my morbid curiosity.

For a good while everyone was ranting about Hollywood running out of original ideas; Knight Rider and Hawaii Five-O were all turned into recent series. I never checked into either but i think Hawaii Five-O is still going on whereas Knight Rider was a continuation with a new generation and I'm not sure if it was made for a limited series or was cancelled.
Meh.

Even if the series is as good or even better than the orginal, I still don't care whatsoever about the TV remake. Is the same thing with many supposed great series such as One Piece, Hawaii Five-O, Gintama, Game of Thrones (I'm planning to read the original books someday, tought) and Persona. I just don't care.

But while we are still at it, have you watched the Lethal Weapon movies?

Fist of the North Star: The Movie

I first thought of Zpace Jocko and offer my apologies. Maybe classic anime just isn't my thing. 

In my personal opinion, the English dubbing is awful, the body proportions and people growing into titans is laughable, Kenshiro doing his hyper punching and kicking was fine but the dadadadadadadada scream made me cringe, and it hurt to watch. However I did enjoy the ending scene and scene during the credits after a very strange turn of events in the final fight. And I found myself looking up what happened afterwards because I wanted to know Raoh's and Yuria's fates.

I do like the soundtrack, though. Very 80's but awesome.

Went and saw Game Night featuring Jason Bateman and Rachael McAdams last night for college night at the local movie theatre, so as a dual-credit student I got in free. It's a action-comedy-mystery-esque movie about friends participating in a fake "rescue the hostage using clues" game, but it ends up being a real hostage situation that they have to solve. 

Very entertaining. Plot wasn't super detailed, but it was very funny and enjoyable with a group of friends. Probably won't rewatch it anytime soon, but it was definitely worth the price I didn't have to pay.
