Different game versions thread

We all know that video games tend to have different versions. But most of the time video games tend to have different versions that are very different from one console release. Some levels appear in other versions of the game, while others are cut out from the other console release. This also includes on graphics for the said game. The PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of Ghostbusters: The video game have a more realistic look. While later versions such as the Nintendo Wii Version aim for a more 'cartoon' inspired look.

Prince of Persia Fan Approaches!

When the Sands of Time movie came out, Ubisoft came out with another game for the "Sands of Time series." That is all the untrained person knows. What is really cool is that each version is a diffrent game.

The Forgotten Sands on the Xbox360, PS3, and PC are all the same game and is about The Prince dealing with an army of sand warriors with the help from the Djinn, Razia, and his brother.

The Wii version is about The Prince freeing a kingdom from a curse so that he may have a kingdom and princess of his own, which Zahra had promised him.

The PSP version is about The Prince fighting Ahihud, the evil fire spirit, to save the land and his family with the help from the Time Sisters.

The DS version deals with The Prince taking care of an evil cult with help from the Djinn, Razia (yea, I'm pretty sure it's the same character).

I have yet to buy or play the PSP and DS versions so that's why the summaries are so bad, but each version is different than the last. Word to the wise, the stradigy guide is for the Xbox, PlayStation, and PC versions if you want to buy it.

The Wii/PS2 and PS3/Xbox 360 versions of Sonic Unleashed are radically different from each other. So much so that they feel like two separate games. The engine, graphics, stage layouts, number of day/night stages, boss battles, hub world system, leveling system, ranking system -- they are all different.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess came out on both the Nintendo GameCube and the Nintendo Wii. In the Wii version, Link became right handed (unlike his left handed self in previous games) due to most people being right handed. This also caused a flip of the map, rooms, dungeons, etc. compared to the GameCube version. There may have been more differences, but I did not dive into it much. I own the GameCube version, and I briefly played the Wii version on my sister's Wii.

Its maybe not as extreme seeing as the games were more or less identical but Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team were released as separate games with your standard Pokemon differences including what was rare and what was there, but these two had one larger difference. They were on separate systems. Red was on GBA and Blue was on Nintendo DS.

If you ever want buy Spiderman the movie the game and wonder what the difference between the versions is, it's mostly nothing, but the Xbox version has a few bonus missions involving Kraven the Hunter.

No More Heroes on Wii vs Xbox 360


This entire thread could be Wii vs Next gen consoles(in terms of graphics).
Dead Space Extraction, House of the Dead: Overkill, Sonic Unleashed(2 completely different games), Guitar Hero 3 or every HD re-release on Xbox 360/PS3/PC.

One of the few times Nintendo wins though is Soul Caliur 2 on the GameCube...and we all know why.

Also, I personally prefer Wind Waker on GameCube than Wind Waker HD(graphics)
But Wind Waker HDs gameplay improvements over GameCube everytime.

One of my favorite version differences is Hot Wheels: Turbo Racing N64 vs PS1. N64 has much better graphics. PS1 has a full soundtrack including Mettalica songs with full lyrics. Why a game markets towards little kids needed a soundtrack like that I will never know.

I wonder how much the 3DS and Wii U versions of the next Smash Bros will differ from each other. Currently all I know is that the stages will represent the console the version is on. For example, a stage from Pokemon X/Y will be on the 3DS one but not in the Wii U version.

Interesting article on Ocarina of Time version differences. T'is important if you ever plan on speedrunning the game. But a lot of interesting stuff in there if you aren't.

Fur Fighters: Viggo's Revenge was pretty different to all other versions of Fur Fighters. For starters, a drastic change in graphics:

Amongst other things, the original game had 'warbled' talk, whereas VR featured full voice acting.
There were new mini games, new close range attacks and a new level entirely (which was cut from the original version).
The babies you had to save were moved around and some were added to the game. Gold tokens were also moved around.
Music was changed in places, and a couple of new cutscenes were added. A new 'victory' jingle and animation was added for opening new levels.
New enemies were also added, a new playable character was added for certain mini games. Additional easter eggs were added, and two new weapons were added. Also, some parts of certain levels were completely revamped.

Some other parts were also changed, but that's the main bulk of changes.

Also, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two deserves a mention. Or rather, the Wii version does, because it's the only version where it's impossible to complete 100% due to the way the game wipes all data when you start a new save file after defeating the Mad Doctor. All other versions of the game save your quests, except the Wii version (and it's completely necessary for two run throughs to get all quests complete).
I wanted to submit it as trivia here, but needless to say it's kinda hard getting 'proof' outside people mentioning it online.
