Why don't we have a Game of Thrones thread? Is no one watching it but me? It's THE show that's on right now, because Walking Dead is in post-season. Like Walking Dead, I'm familiar with the books and know what's going to happen. But, Sunday night's episode was incredible. I couldn't believe how accurate they did everything.

Joking aside. I've only read one of the books in the Game Of Throne series. I haven't gotten around to watching the show since I don't have HBO.

I was a bit disappointed by the South Park episodes satirizing GoT. Not because GoT was the brunt of the joke-- I loved the idea. I just thought it felt like Matt and Trey didn't watch the show. There's a lot to make fun of, really easy stabs they could have made, that were left out, and instead they called out seeing weiners. Problem was that there's almost NEVER male genitalia in the show, and when there is, there's also like, nine pairs of breasts to "make up" for it.

Killing off cool characters was brushed on, like the dude in the security team, but could've been milked more.
I felt like incest wasn't talked about enough. There's a TON of incest in GoT. That's an easy joke.


Still, It was a great South Park trilogy.

Funny enough, I bought the books last week and they came in the mail two days ago. Granted, it's going to take me a very long time to finish all five books and I'm going to take my time with it.

There's a lot of wordiness. And There's some chapters where I'm like "Oh my God. I don't care." Bran chapters in particular are the worst for me. I don't care about Bran.

There's only one way to find out if Trey and Matt even watched the show. Wait until the DVD comes so and hear the mini commentary on the black friday trilogy.

I haven't read the books yet, but I do watch the show. This past episode was amazing. I'm interested to see how this will affect everyone. I purposely read a spoiler from a book reader because I wanted to know who did it. SO CLEVER.

This is the part where someone says "Oh but the books are soooo much better!"

My whole view is, the show is merely an adaptation of the books. The show can only give, at most, the broad strokes of the show with some fine details sprinkled in. Add in a few extra bits since many of the backstory of the world is given as inner monologues (ie the character's own thoughts). So unless the show was willing to go Dune 1980's here and have us hear a character's own thought narration, they have to improvise and have other characters give some backstory but not a whole lot. Otherwise it would be just a show where people talk about the past more that doing something in the present. May make for a good written story but for TV, not so much.

On the other hand, the books as just mentioned give a little more depth to the characters, we know what they are thinking (not all but the main ones usually) and even some history on how some characters got to where they are. Like with Ned Stark, when he was in prison he was thinking about his past when he went to save his sister from where she was held and had to fight 3 of the Kingsguard with no help but from the Reed siblings own father Howland (who we still have not seen in the books beyond mention in flashback moments.

Sorry this went rather long. Also the books get really good as they go on. Book 2 and 3 have some amazing moments plus you get more Tyrion bits as it goes on. Who doesn't love the little dwarf?

I'm very excited to start reading the books when this season ends.

I'm actually more than aware of all of the backstory. My girlfriend, best friend, and a few others I hang out with all read the books and are very into it, and they talk about the lore so much. The lore is almost more interesting than the books themselves.

I agree with you half way with that thought of the lore being more interesting. In this particular stories case, there are plenty of characters all on their own who offer plenty of good interesting moments. There are very few dull moments for me in this series. For me, Sansa as a character doesn't become interesting until midway of book 3 going into 4 and a bit of 5 (cause most of that book she has like 1 or 2 chapters I think. Can't recall, only read it once and been meaning to reread them all. Maybe I'll just start at 4 and work my way from there).

But I will give you that the lore, the backstory, the history of the series is just as good as the story being told.

I loved two moments actually from the books, saying spoiler now if you don't wish to know before hand:

First moment was with Ned Stark in the dungeons, the Black Cells they call them for only the most heinous of criminals. This is where Hitler, Bin Laden, Stalin, Ted Bundy, or Charles Manson would be placed if they were from Westeros. During his stay there he was dreaming about his sister Lyanna who died during the war he and Robert fought against King Aerys, The Mad King. It was at a place called the Tower of Joy, Prince Rhaegar's sort of private getaway/summer home. It was there that she was being kept. Kept a prisoner or a guest, it isn't said for certain. One person thought it was prisoner, others a guest. Anyway, it was there he went with I think 6 other guys including his friend Howland Reed. This would be Jojen and Meera Reed's father, the two that are helping Bran travel North.

There Ned and the 6 others fought 3 of the Kingsguard; Arthur Dayne, Oswell Went and Gerold Hightower Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. Of the 7 that fought those 3, only 2 lived. Ned Stark and Howland Reed. Ned didn't go into details about it and other details said it was because of Reed that Ned was even alive at the end of that fight.

The other lore/tale/backstory was told by the Reed children about how their father and Bran's father first met, which I'm sad they haven't yet told that story in the show. The books had them do it before they crossed under the Wall. But there is still time yet before they reach journey's end to tell it. I could go into the details but I don't recall it all except in patches so I suggest reading the books and you'll read it in the 3rd book, A Storm of Swords.

I've seen this pop around off and on, each image related to a death scene in Game of Thrones. If you haven't watched all the seasons don't look at these as each image is told which episode it corresponds with along with a tagline to give you a more detailed clue as to where this death took place.

Some of it is obvious, others are just slightly vague.
