PC Boots to no monitor signal
#1
So me and my buddy are currently stumped about this. Last week, he fixed up my PC with a new motherboard and everything's been working absolutely fine. I ordered a new graphics card, which should be compatible with everything, and install it. After this, I boot the PC, fans and LEDs turn on, but "no signal detected" pops up on my monitor. I tried removing the graphics card and booting, but the exact same thing happens. Any idea what might be causing this?

Did you make sure you have a PSU that is giving it enough power?

I had to get a new one to power mine, it's currently 550w and works alright.

Make sure that you don't cheap out on it, £40 or above I'd say.

I take it by taking it out, you mean that you've tried using the on-board graphics adapter and it still comes up black?

Yeah it should be fine, I bought a decent 600w one a month ago and it's been working well.

Yup, the on-board, which was working perfectly well last week, should be functioning properly. It was all working well, then I inserted the new card and attached the PCI power cable to the card, and it booted to a black screen. Then I removed the graphics card (and the PCI cable) and it did the exact same thing.

I didn't actually change anything, the on-board one is attached to the motherboard, so I put the new card in then removed it without changing ANYTHING else in the case.

When I boot the PC, all of the LEDs light up and my USB WiFi adapter in the back lights it's LED, but my USB keyboard does not light, which it should. Not sure if that's helpful or not, just trying to provide as much info as possible. My buddy thinks that it might be the processor, but neither of us are sure at this point.

That's a real puzzler...

I'd say recheck all of your connections, make sure nothing is loose. It's possible when removing the card you jostled something and made it loose... It's possible something isn't functioning, but that's always hard to determine. Does your motherboard have a speaker that beeps? If so, how many beeps, and what motherboard do you have?

I can easily assume that the computer isn't getting past the bios if the USB devices aren't lighting up, unless if you leave it for a while, the Windows start up sound comes from your speakers. I'd advise trying to put your keyboard into the same USB slot as you have your Wifi adapter, see if it flashes when you turn the computer on from that slot.

It could just mean that you're getting power from USB, but not data connection.

It really could be any number of things. Trial and error, sadly.

Oh hey never updated this thread with the result, sorry.

It ended up working fine with my OLD CPU and my New motherboard, but not with my NEW cpu and new motherboard. My friend who helped fix it still isn't entirely sure what the deal was, but it's been working fine for a few months and I'm sure posting this won't jinx it at all!
