How I plan for this to work:

-Each week there will be a theme: "Let's Recommend", "Bad Anime Theater", "Anime Movie night", etc.

-Everyone picks 1 anime that goes with the theme, and we watch the first episode of that anime. (For movie night it'll have to put to a vote, since we can't watch a bunch of Movies in one go.)

There will be more to it, depending on whether I can test this out.

So if you're interested or have any questions let me know.

This sounds like an interesting idea, lets see where this goes. I'm gonna be honest though my personal opinion is this idea will be in the trash within a week, but if it isn't and it actually comes to fruition I would happily participate.

Cool I think we've got enough interest to do a test run. Let me know what time is best for you guys. (I'm flexible time-wise.)

At the moment I've been looking for syncing sites to host this, but at the moment I've only found one that can sync youtube videos. (Which I don't think we'll be able to get the most out of.) Or we can do what my friends and I would do and preload a video and do a countdown over Skype and sync up that way. So here's what I propose for the test run; we either:

Find episodes on Youtube and use http://togethertube.com/ to sync up playback.

PROS

-Makes syncing up easier
-Videos can be added on the fly

CONS

-Limited to Youtube videos only
-If the video is blocked in your country, then you won't be able to see anything till the next video

Find episodes from external sites, send me the links (Through PM only) so I can compile a playlist for everyone and doing a countdown to sync up

PROS

-Video sources are limitless
-Viewers can preload the next video while watching.

CONS

-Manual countdown required.
-If you try to jump in while we're already watching a video; you'll have to either wait for us to set a pausing point to bring you in or you'll have to wait till the next video.
-We'll need to have everyone on Skype or something to coordinate playback.
-Ads may desync us. (Which I would recommend using Ad Blocker.)

If we're going with the second option, I'll need to compile a list of sites that can legally stream anime, so let me know if you know of some that we can work with.

Also I'll be editing this post with site information as I find them. If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to let me know.

Think the Synchtube would be a bit better to try out first.

If we do the sites that aren't YouTube, I know a plethora of sites that host anime. As for the day, any day except for Wednesday works for me. Also I think using the YouTube would be very annoying, because usually when anime episodes are uploaded to YouTube, or any episode of anything really, it's split into multiple parts, and the quality is varied.

OMG, an anime night would be soooo fun! Count me in as well! I'm really out of touch with the newer series.

I was such a Toonami brat... The Big O, Outlaw Star, the Tenchi series, Yu Yu Hakusho, Sailor Moon... Then Adult Swim used to be cool and air stuff mostly uncut. Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Paranoia Agent, Death Note... Oh! Oh! And Tech TV used to air anime as well! I really loved Boogie Pop Phantom and Serial Experiments Lain.

I randomly picked up Hare+Guu and really enjoyed that! So zany!

Funimation gives out free preview and Is This a Zombie? was a lot of fun, even if "Vampire Ninjas" are the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

We should watch Paprika on one of the anime nights! It's a full movie that's just splendid!

Tokyo Pop went out of business, but I'm sure you could find the manga Hyper Police to read online! It's really funny and the art is great. It's about a dimwit bounty hunter cat girl named Natsuki and the shenanigans she gets into. There's also a guy who goes full werewolf when he's horny and an eight and a half tailed fox girl who thinks eating Natsuki will grow out her ninth tail.

...Holy smokes that's just a scatter brained reply... I think I need some sleep.

They closed their site last week though, which is why I had to search for a new site like it.

If you can, link me to ones you think are the best so I can look at them before hand.

There's a Google Chrome extension called ProxTube that unblocks YouTube videos. It uses a US proxy so if an American (which I assume majority of the website is) can view it, everyone else can. Useful for using the FUNimation YouTube, which blocks every non-American.
You'll have to download it from the website though, it's not on the Chrome Store.

Is there REALLY any site that would "legally" stream anime? I mean, even the stuff on YT is practically illegal.

In any case, I know a few good sites. I've bookmarked quite a lot of 'em over the years. Oh, and a good time? Uh... Easter?

Well I just don't want anyone linking to sites in the thread to save my ass (Cause I currently don't know the ruling on this). I prefer to be linked through PM.

Is March 26 at 5PM (Central Time Zone UTC -06:00) a good time for everyone to pick what animes they want to show off and ready to watch? If not I won't be available the 29th of March to 1st of April due to family matters.

Also, cingchris linked me to some sites that can help if you're having trouble finding the animes you want. (Drop me a PM if you need them.)

This works for me, and Angel Beats is one anime that needs to be watched.

For the sake of this test, I'm allowing everyone to pick up to three animes they would like to show off. (Keep in mind you don't have to have exactly three, this is to make sure we have a decent size playlist.)

While I'm at it, I think now is a good time to setup some ground rules.

General Setup
  • First and foremost we will be using Skype to sync playback/chat/etc, so it would be a good idea to add zabi-sama to your contacts to get added to the call.

  • Please note that you are not required to have a mic to join the call, but I do require you to able to hear me do the countdown.

  • Everyone is required to play the list I give them in order. No skipping.

  • If your internet is slow, let us know so we can allow you enough time to load.

  • I will do a ready check to ensure everyone is ready for countdown. Hit play on 3. "1...2...3..."

  • After each episode we'll take a 5 minute break to allow everyone time to load the next episode enough to view seamlessly.

Rules on mic usage
  • Please don't hog the mic, and by that I mean don't have something to say every 30 or so seconds. We are here to watch anime, not to listen to your comedy routine.

  • Play your audio through your headset, if possible, and adjust the volume accordingly. If you can't, please mute your mic and unmute it when you would like to comment.

  • In conjunction with the last point, if you have noticeable background noise please mute your mic and unmute it when you would like to comment.

What to do if you are joining late

If you're couldn't make it on time please message me on Skype. I will tell you:

-What we are currently watching
-link to the page
-time stamp that we're gonna pause at (This time stamp will be a minute or so ahead of us.)

Be sure to have your video on that time stamp when you enter the call. Once everyone is ready I will redo the countdown to resume.

Hopefully I've covered all the bases.
