So Odyssey drops in two days. I've only seen one review so far (the Edge review in which it got a perfect 10/10 - only the 20th perfect score in the magazine's history) so I'm interested to see what other outlets think, but right now I'm leaning towards a day one purchase or even a pre-order (which is rare).

Anybody else excited?

Why?

What do you mean "why?"

Is the game disliked among the Saints Row community?

Yes, Saints Row was a middle ground between being very serious and being wacky and funny, and then threw it all out the window to be wacky and funny for the sake of being wacky and funny.

Take these two missions from Saints Row 2. Spoilers ahead:

Gat, who is one of your closest friends and loyal gang member is attending a funeral for his girlfriend who was killed by one of the gangs around Stilwater. Halfway through the funeral, they crash it and tell Gat to get ready for a fight, Gat refuses telling him to do it any other time but now, since it's a fucking funeral and they don't comply. You and Gat kill all of their members and get the leader of the gang and punish him by burying him alive.

Take this scene

One of the other gangs decide they're going to do a drug trade in Stilwater and give your gang 20%, obviously insulting you because you're worth much more than that, so after a few battles and putting radioactive waste in one of his new tattoo's, you kidnap his wife, trap her in the trunk of a car and park that car in the local monster derby ring and let him crush his own wife without knowing.

The game had it's wacky moments, but it was always trying to be serious when it needed to be. There are mulitple times in Saints Row 2 where it was being a serious game, and SR3 just threw it all out the window to be a wacky alternative to GTA and basically ruined it entirely. Saints Row 4 didn't help it, as it just took that premise added super powers and called it a day which made it even worse.

To put it into perspective, you can search "Saints Row 3 Dildo Bat" just to see how far this series dropped off the radar, or how there are missions where you go inside a virtual reality game and are transported in as a toilet because the character model hasn't loaded into the game.

The biggest crime was killing off Gat 10 minutes into the game for no reason. Literally, no fucking reason. They just kill off the best character, not for any dramatic reason just to kill him.

It's an absolute disgrace.

Although, ranting aside. I think he was asking why is an 8 year old game coming out on the Switch of all things.

That does pretty much sums it up.
Oh, and the whole "I leveled up so much that I can shoot a RPG into the car I'm standing on as I fall from a skyscraper and I won't die while I'm fighting waves of gangs and police, both of which cannot kill me, and it's just boring as heck because it's so repetitive kinda like Crackdown 2 where I fight hordes of night monsters and collect orbs for power ups because I beat the game and I have nothing left to do" sucks.
And Burt Reynolds was a better Avery Carrington in GTA: Vice City than Mayor Burt Reynolds in SR3.

I kinda like The Third, but I will say that 2 was the highest point in the series. A few people I've been talking to have been playing through the series and we agree that IV (and to a lesser extent, Gat out of Hell) is the lowest point and just seems to be wacky because the other two were. 2 was the best game and The Third was the most they should have pushed the silliness.

As for porting an 8 year old game, why not? I've seen older, less relevant games get ported over to new gen consoles. I would have rather they port the second game or made the first game better, but you take what your given.

Also, never really liked Johnny that much. He was cool in the first two games, but I didn't really miss him when he was gone. Maybe it was the fact that he had a whole expansion named after him so I knew I was going to see him again, but his death didn't effect me.

Sorry, I should have specified that I'm actually buying it ! She's coming up this weekend and knows someone at EB Games who could get the whole thing for the same price as on Amazon, so I thought "may as well help his sales numbers"

The Switch is pretty dope, though I really didn't like the gray or neon colored joy-cons that comes with the system.

If given the chance, invest in the red joy-cons. They are bomb as f*ck. Downside is they are pricey.
