Popo is called Pepe in German

Popo of Ice Climbers and Smash Bros fame is named Pepe in Germany. This seems to be because Popo means buttocks (or simply 'butt') in German. Germany is known for massively censoring video games, so this should come as no surprise.

The character is definitely named Pepe in Germany, which can be seen in many publications. One example is the German hub for Wikipedia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Climber

I also checked to see if Popo had his name changed in any of the other EU languages, but they were all Popo.

Interesting to note that it's still "Popo" in French despite that being a puerile way of saying "going for a number two". You'd say of a baby or a small child; that he went "popo".

He meant that "popo" is close to "poopoo" in writing.
"Popo" is indeed pronounced "poepoe" in British English.

EDIT: but them again, you could argue that Mr.Popo from the DragonBall series never got his name changed in any of the english versions.
