We need to talk about EA
#1
Let's start with this: https://www.dualshockers.com/ea-responds...estimates/

https://www.destructoid.com/ea-backpedal...2568.phtml

All that seems like a win right? Accept none of that has anything to do with the fact that nothing related to the skills people will need to grind up for comes into play here and by my estimates from a while back, that's going to take almost as long as the 173 hours, per character class, not counting heroes, not counting ships, to unlock them to their max level. Yes, we got a small victory over EA, even though it will still take a few dozen hours of grinding to unlock all the heroes, but is it really enough? The answer is no, the game will still be a pay to win title, even though it costs 60 dollars to start to pay to win.

There's also of course, all the issues with them forcing Visceral and Bioware Montreal to shut down this year. EA, is actually, the literal worst company in the industry, ever. Any thoughts about it after reading those articles and knowing what we know?

Eh, it's just going to die down like it always does. Remember back when they closed Pandemic? Or when the 2015 Battlefront's season pass basically cut the game in half and doubled the price? Or the last ten games they've shipped as buggy incomplete messes because they force absurd deadlines on publishers? They were voted the worst company in the world for years up against people who killed babies and stole people's houses out from under them.

There's gonna be a little bad PR for a week or two then everyone will move on. Just stop buying their games, yo.

To be clear, no the refund button was not removed. EA just likes to fudge it's pre-order numbers up by not allowing you to cancel pre-orders from their website. Instead, there is a number that you can call that will take an hour of waiting but will let you cancel, and you can cancel it as soon as the game launches: http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2017/11/14/no-ea...lefront-ii

The thing is. I personally NEVER bought any of EA's games. They weren't interesting to me from the slightest. Hell. If people hate the company. Then WHY are there millions who keep buying the stuff that they cram out of their sun don't shines?

To answer your question reagarding why people keep buying EA products, I'm just going to leave this here:

They gripe and they moan, then so many still go out and buy the games.
This wouldn’t even happen if people actually boycotted companies.
Simple as.
Basically, some people don't practice what they preach.

The sad truth is, is that some people don't really care as much as they make it seem like they do online, and because there is a fairly large amount of people who buy games, who don't keep up with the industry at all, so they are entirely unaware of what they helping to keep alive. It's hard to convince those people that it's important to know either, because how dare anyone insinuate that something is wrong with the games they spend their money on, or something like that. However, if people can keep the pressure on EA like what happened yesterday with future projects, even they'll have to relent some, and hopefully before they take two large steps forward with their anti-consumer practices only to take a small step backwards when people get mad.

It is worth noting that the Campaign completion reward has been reduced by 75 percent as well. At the end of the game, you get a loot crate that used to contain 20,000 credits, now it contains 5,000 credits. Personally, I think it's pretty fair that after you beat the story, you get the chance to buy any hero you'd like, and have a little extra credits to get them going with Star cards, but apparently, EA thinks only Iden should be unlockable after completing the game. In the one hand, since she is a character new to this game's story, I kind of get why they would want you to unlock her after beating it, but considering the fact that she's not main draw of the story after all, and instead you play as heroes through portions of it, you should be able to unlock anyone you want after beating it. Or their should be tiered difficulties each with their own crate at the end, and the 5,000 credit one should be for the lowest difficulty, while the 20,000 credit one should be awarded for completing the highest. You can read that what I'm saying is true here: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archi...eview.aspx

EA is considering buying more companies and their attitude towards what's happened this year, is dismissive at best: https://www.dualshockers.com/electronic-...frostbite/

They also want fans of Star Wars to "be patient" while they figure out things: https://www.dualshockers.com/star-wars-b...-services/

Personally, both of these are insulting. On the one hand, they are acting pretty nonchalant about closing Visceral and Bioware Montreal, and then what they said about Star Wars, kind of suggest that they feel like all they need to is figure out how little bullshit they we'll let them get away with before they clam down. The answer is none EA, so just fuck off with your BS.

Just a heads up, Star Wars Battlefront II is pretty sweet. I don't know what everyone is talking about. I got my hands on a hard copy and I think everyone should give it a go.

Another thing I feel must be noted is that a lot of EA's series didn't originally begin with EA.

The Old Republic, Mass Effect and Dragon Age were under Bioware which was not EA at the time.

Maxis with various Sims games. Didn't get bought until 1997 and killed in 2014.

Populous, Dungeon Keeper and Syndicate by Bullfrog.

Ultima and Wing Commander were made by Origin.

Command and Conquer was Westwood Studios.

DreamWorks Interactive with Medal of Honor. They're now DICE Los Angeles.

Phenomic with Mercenary, SpellForce and BattleForge.

Pandemic with Destroy All Humans!, Saboteur, and Star Wars: Battlefront (Is this irony? I'm not sure. Its 6 am and I haven't slept.)

NuFX with NBA Street.

Visceral Games killed off recently (though this one started as EA afaik).

A lot of people end up supporting EA because its an all consuming creatue that sucks in everything they know and love.

The reason Firaxis released that shitshow Civ V mod we call Beyond Earth is because EA owns the rights to Alpha Centauri. A lot of racing games didn't have porsches in them because of EA. https://www.polygon.com/2016/12/13/13935...an-turismo

Got some good news. The Belgium Gaming Commission is investigating EA's Loot Box system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnEArH_UA3U&t=0s
