Just Saw Iron Man 3

And I have to say, I really enjoyed it. However a friend who enjoys the comics says it isn't as good as the comic form of it. I wont really tell any spoilers, however I will say that if you haven't seen it, go see it. If you live in America and have to wait until next Friday, then try to pre-order a ticket as you will enjoy it.

Also as a fun thing to trick people on other sites (this is if you wish to troll some people, and lets be honest, everyone does at least once in their life) tell them to watch out for the talking parrot, as it is very important (and if you think this is a spoiler, there is no talking parrot)

Agreed with what your friend said. Not to spoil that much but basically, in the comics The Mandarin is a super powerful magical dude, in the film.....well WTF happened. I can't spoil it for you but seriously, what?
I understand when it comes to comics there are multiple universes, so what happens in the comics shouldn't be directly shown in the films as they're alternate timelines...but it's just bad. Laughably bad.

Watching it made me want to get the comics, however I have no real place to start, and I am already committed to DC :(

DC? EW! DC's only good super hero is Batman and he doesn't have any super powers.

I will always hate DC because they couldn't let Superman die.

As someone who is definitely more of a Marvel fan, this is far from the truth. Batman is the only good popular super hero DC has.

When I was younger, I used to hate Batman with a passion. It wasn't until recently (~7 years) until I got a good love for Batman

2006, about the time the new batman movies started coming out if I am not mistaken.

I think it was right before The Dark Knight came into theaters. Because once I saw that movie, I was hooked.

You could start without our generation of comics. Ultimate Iron Man is a good place to start. I'd recommend the Ultimate X-men/Iron Man/Spiderman(A must) to anyone wanting to get into comics. All around the early 2000s and have some great writing. Plus, they're our generation of comics.

...except for one of the biggest story arcs within the DC Universe that ran from 1992 which was "The Death of Superman"; which is worth reading.

My point was is that DC couldn't keep Superman dead. They just had to bring him back.

Ah OK. Kinda a common "issue/trap/cliche idea" in comics though.
Heck we now have a new Robin in New 52

If they do die, they just get taken over like Ultimate Spiderman.

There actually are a lot of awesome ones out there. My favourite DC character (which is kind of ironic) is Captain Marvel, later renamed to be known as Shazam. His story is more lighter as its a child who is magically transformed in a way, so you have that childlike wonder through it all.

It does get annoying that Superman doesn't die, but they use the multiverse theory in it, so they can always bring back old characters if need be.

Gotta love that scape goat. Same with the films too and how the Dark Series is different to the Tim Burton series and all the others. Eh.

Hokay, comics are my thing. If there is anything I can talk about for
like, ten hours, and vomit a bowl full of knowledge with, it's comic
books.

So first of all, The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 was kind of a
let down, but honestly, what he was up UNTIL then was even more of a
letdown for me. Frankly when they did, what they did I was like "Thank
God." Besides. Extremis was all I really needed. We don't need two
villains in one movie.

As for the DC hate going on, I'm hurt. DC
is my preferred of the Big 2. I used to be a Marvl guy, but at some
point I just got tired of it all. Let's see, who said they weren't sure
where to start... Ah! Phoenix! NAme a superhero, and I'll tell you some great places to start. In Iron Man's case, honestly? I'd start with Extremis. It was fairly recent and I'm fairly sure it came with a really quick origin to Iron Man. Something like "Hi, I'm Tony Stark. A bomb went off and shrapnel was in my heart and stuff. Oh and I own a big suit. And I like to save America." Bam. Then Extremis.

There's a reason why they didn't keep Superman dead. Superman is the face of DC. So many people collect Superman(And Batman) comics. Getting rid of Superman was a HUGE thing because he was the face of the company and he was DEAD. But that kinda thing can't last forever, so back to life he was. People like to think Superman is OP, but honestly, the The Flash's power set is SO overpowered, it's impossible to write a story with him without it being completely full of plot holes due to his stupid level of over-poweredness.(word?) Green Lantern is pretty wicked, too. He can snipe planets and whatnot.

My favorite DC character is Aquaman, believe it or not. It's had great writing so far in the New 52 and not a single issue for me has been dull.

I watched Iron Man 3 yesterday and I've gotta say. (Turns out I wrote quite a lot for this, read at your own risk!)
My views on the DC hate in this thread are below.
Sorry for all of the text, I didn't mean to make it so long winded! >.<
